Flight Instructor Rating

Post by Tango01 »

What's a good place to do this rating in Southern Ontario FAST!? I'm willing to go at it full time in Feb. I know the weather won't be great, any suggestions?

It doesn't matter where you do it. The most important thing is that you find a class 1 flight instructor that will make the time to train you and don't find one that is also the CFI because they won't have the time.

I know the weather is not great, but if you find a stand alone class 1 instructor that is flexible go for it. I would say that practically all of the schools in southern Ontario won't be able to help you very much because their class 1 are also the CFI and with the weather and their schedule it will take you a long time like it did me. If you have the patience then that is fine, but Transport Canada won't do anything about it, and personally I think that schools that can't train you because they don't hae a full time class 1 shouldn't be training any instructor students but it is all about the buck and they couldn't care how long it took you to get the rating.

my two cents,

If you can afford with both the financing and taking the time off I would go outside the surrounding toronto area ( southern ontario) area because frankly they just can't do it.

Okay, then maybe outside Ontario? How is Harv's Air? I need a place with nearby accomodation (close to airport) and better weather than Ontario. Any advice?

Talk to Rob at BFC. He's the CFI and a solid class one.

Harv's will do it asap for you... they have a few class 1s on staff at both bases last time I checked. They should be able to give you as many bookings as you can handle. the accomidations are on site, mobiles, decent price and decent living conditions.

Talk to Scott Peters at Aviation International, Guelph,Ontario @ CNC4

Thee best Class1 Instructor money can buy ( I challenge ANYONE to argue it) and he currently is not that busy that he could do your rating in a relatively short time frame with a possible job prospect at the end.

This is great time. The school, as most, is trying to fight the weather, but that works into your favour. You'll not be needing good weather for a few weeks, just enough time to get some of the 'ground hours' out of the way while getting your lesson plans ready.

The better weather should be arriving around March/April (if not before, hopefully) which by then you should have some 'Flight' hours under your belt and almost ready for the TC initial Class IV ride... and ready and employable in time for this spring/ summer.

He's not too busy. He has his regular CFI/Class 1 and DFTE duties and has about 2-3 Instructor Rating candidates at various stages right now.

email your name and number to danarbour1@hotmail.com. I'll guarantee and personally get Scott to call you.

St. Thomas has 2-Class 1s available and will train you as fast as you are able to handle the workload.
