Logbooks
I know a lot of people who make entries in their logbooks every now and then, some every flight, and some don't even bother anymore.
Personally, after each day of flying, I make the entry in my logbook. I never miss a beat or decide to do it later.
Now, my question, is that once you've got your A's, do you bother keeping your logbook up to date? Or do you just ball park figures based on what you believe you're at?
I know for airline interviews, they like to see the logbook, so I'm sure in this case you'd need to have it up to date, but after that, do you bother making entries? or do you just say "I've got everything I need, no point in logging everything anymore, other than for my own personal viewing pleasure"?

After every flight! Unless we go to the bar...but every day! Keeps it neat and up to date.

Getting your A's doesn't mean you don't have to log time. In Canada, i would hazard a guess that there are more ATPL pilots not flying for the big guys. I still enter every leg (made my own excel spread sheet, so it's fairly easy). Probably overkill. I will soon just log total daily sectors and time .
What little I do know is either not important or I've forgotten it!

I haven't kept a "logbook" in years, but I know my flight times through my daily/monthly flight and duty, and my totals are kept on my forestry applications on an annual basis.
I seriously can't bring myself to go back through about 6yrs of flying a figure it out...
I know, I probably should....

Been a long time since I have kept a personal log, but I do sort of keep track of where I was flying.
I find that looking at all the stamps and visas in my old passports gives me some record of what I did.
I can not ever remember any employer ever asking to see my log book either.

Cat, may I ask you why not keep a simple log? What's so hard about it?
For myself, my logbook is much more than just logging the hours. I keep put pictures, newspaper articles, IRT renewals, etc in it. Just to remind me of the good old times when I grow old!

There was a time when I did, but after losing a few I sort of lost interest and finally just resorted to keeping a record by hours flown in a month, then got bored with that and didn't bother to keep a record except for hours billiable.Cat, may I ask you why not keep a simple log? If you are ever around this area drop by my home.
I have quite a collection of airplane magazines and airplane monthly papers with stories of my flying adventures in them. And movies that were shot by TV companies and movie companies such as Merimax who I flew for. Oh also one big book full of pictures and fascinating stories of the flying I did for TF1 television in France..its in French though.
So in the final analysis I do have a fair record of my flying, for sure no one ever asks me how many hours I have flying cross country or IMC.

Quite a few of the forum lizzards who dwell here have been here STL was the last one just a couple of weeks ago.

Indeed, I was.... but you may want to be careful who you start playing "let's compare photo album thickness" with around here... My slideshow comes with an IV drip, bedpan, and catheter... So lets just say I've got a few for you to sit through when you get over this way.... lol

As to the logbooks, I just can't take it that seriously, and I'm too lazy to boot. Enough paperwork in this damn sport already.

I just keep one of those little red books in my bag and write down the flights, Occasionally when I'm board I will transfer it to the big book. Most of the entries are total for the day not legs.
