Hypothetical question about this.

a little diffrent scenario here,
Had a friend and her boyfriend who wanted to get away for the night, to make it special they asked me if I could rent the aircraft and fly them to said destination, amd pick them up the next day. This way here I could rent solo hourly rate and they pay for it, maybe making 40$ or so off of it however would the flight school or club be losing money as they would not be able to charge charter rates? how would they feel about doing this. keeping in mind i am licensed commercially however not employed by the school or club. Is this doable??

P.S I have been asked to do this but never did, just wondering what thoughts are on this, would i be making enemies.

Sounds similar to your mom paying for your flight training and wanting to to ride along in the back when you go somewhere fun. You're friends with these people, they can pay for the rental, but technically not pay you for your time. Now, don't go offer your services on craigs list or something... then you are a chizle charter.

It is pretty simple, I can't take my car and advertise a taxi service, but my buddy can pay me for gas if I pick him up from the airport or something. Lets look at the idea behind the law you're not a business is all really.

So i show up at the school or club with 2 friends, rent the plane to go from A to B, they pay for the plane, upon arrival back at point A im all alone, left with 2 came back alone.

good example about the taxi and paying for gas scenario, It is funny how it all works, lots of loopholes in life.

Just keep it with friends only, when you start to mix it up with strangers you'll cross the line eventually.

Oh, I misread that... I thought he wanted to put lights in his scones??? Too much to be said about the other stuff he is doing and makes about the same amount of sense.

It does not matter if you have a CPL, and heck you could have an ATPL and still it is not ok. You need and Operator Certificate because it is a charter flight. You are going on demand.
But if your friends want to go somewhere and you happen to go towards the same place, or further on, they can contribute to your expense.

Again, if it's on demand, it is not ok. More so offering it through a classifieds ad....
Does anybody know what is CRA's view on barter? Is it a form of income? TC will love to chew this pilot for flying for hire with a plane that has no charter Op Cert.

My view... yours may vary.

Pretty classy!! Wonder if some TC inspector will take him up on the offer to see where it goes.

I especially like the part where you will only have to pay for his check out on the airplane once.

Quite a few years ago the flight school advertised for Joe public to come by and go for a flight with a private licensed pilot working on their commercial. I took up many people including 2 transport employees. They were unlicensed office workers that just wanted to see what it was like to fly. We always keeped the price just less than the cost of the rental. The passengers were always put in direct contact with the Pilot and it was kept to recreational flying. One of our instructors was married to an inspector so everone knew what was going on.

A power hungry newbie in TC would love to get these guys- to move up the rungs of power.

If you put this kind of shit on Kijiji, beware!

It's not actually TC that is the rabid dog in cases like this: The Canadian Transportation Agency really love these guys!! I've had more than enough experience dealing with this situation...

If he's flying out of Buttonville to say Muskoka = 76SM. Seems at $80.00 one way for fuel only is a little steep unless he's flying a beaver.

I took the time to write this PPL about his "business" practices.
This is the reply I received to a letter I wrote him last night in regards to his ad offering flying services on kijiji. Take 5 mins and lets fill his inbox!

PS.. My letter to him was not full of curses or threats. This was his reply.

@#$! OFF.

FIRST OF ALL, IT'S NOT A COMMERCIAL AIR SERVICE. PEOPLE PAY FOR GAS AT THE END OF THE FLIGHT. SIMPLE.
SECOND, INSURANCE DOES STATE "PRIVATE BUSINESS AND PLEASURE." HENCE, MY PLANE, I CAN DO WHAT I WANT, IF IM THE PIC.
THIRD, WHEN YOU BUY YOUR OWN FUCKING PLANE, THEN YOU LEARN WHAT REALLY AIR LAW IS. IM A LAW STUDENT, SPECIALIZING IN AVIATION LAW, SO PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MORONIC COMMENTS IN YOUR BRAIN. OTHERWISE I'LL SEEK LEGAL CONSEQUENCES.
FOURTH, YOU ARE PROBABLY NUMBSKULLS, WHO ARE SEEKING FOR FLYING HOURS, BLINDLY PARADING IN WHAT WAS TAUGHT TO YOU. YOU NEVER HAD A PLANE, AND YOUR INSTRUCTOR NEVER DID EITHER. GROW UP AND LEARN TO READ THE CARS.
FIVE, STOP BEING JEALOUS THAT SOMEONE HAS THE SMARTS TO DO SOMETHING CHARITABLE AND OFFER SKILLS IN EXCHANGE FOR GAS MONEY.

I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE 5000 HOURS OR 50 HOURS...EXPERIENCE DOES NOT QUALIFY AS SHIT. Please do not voice your incompetence.

Blue skies gentlemen,

Xxxx
