Observations From the Obamagasm in Ottawa
- the Secret Service apparently forgot to load the lifeless dummy into the presidential motorcade's "dummy car."
Jack Layton and Stockwell Day offered to stand-in.
- how many cars and trucks were in that motorcade anyways? One-hundred.....two-hundred....or was it thousands?
Instead of the bailouts to the big three automakers, why don't they just host more presidential visits?
- did you see the global warmist standing on a snowbank, frozen solid with the "STOP CLIMATE CHANGE" sign at his feet?
- two million will be spent on security - for a five-hour visit - while Americans and Canadians are losing jobs by the minute.
- what is a "working lunch" anyways? An exercise to explore how "out to lunch" each side really is - at least when it comes to finding cohesion on key issues?
- did you see Harper ham it up for the cameras, as soon as Obama arrived? Speaking of ham, Maple Leaf offered to provide the cold cuts, but their offer was politely declined.
- CTV 's coverage was exhaustive - right down to Obama/Harper's favourite movies. Obama likes The Godfather. Harper likes Lost in Translation - as does his speechwriters.
- and finally, does anyone else find this worship of Obama by some liberal Canadians to be as pathetic as their pathological hatred for George W. Bush? Is it really about their "claimed" national/global social and environmental concerns -
or just another case of ideologically arrogant puritanism?
BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CTV has just reported that some raised voices are reverberating from the Prime Minister's office, a chair was thrown out the window (no one was sitting in it though), the cook has been told to put lunch back into the refrigerator.....and Air Force One has been ordered to start the engines.
I would consider this "working lunch" to be a success. As they say, a good fence makes for good neighbours.

Re: Observations From the Obamagasm in Ottawa
I heard a reporter on CTV news say that Canada needs "it's own Obama"
The reason Obama is so popular is because there were 8 years with Bush. It's not that Obama is so great, it's that americans have set the bar so low!

Re: Observations From the Obamagasm in Ottawa
I'm not sure if anyone here is old enough to remember, but ...
Both Pierre Elliot Trudeau and John F Kennedy were similar
"rock star" heads of state, just like Obama. Identical gushing
and fawning by the press.
Neither one worked out very well. JFK, if he is remembered
for nothing else, is the guy who committed the USA to the
Vietnam War, and look how that turned out. PET surely is
in the running for the worst Prime Minister Canada ever had.
I really, really hope that Obama turns out to make a better
head of state than either PET or JFK, because the public's
(and the media's) taste in this regard has been truly horrible.

I disagree Hedley, most people on the street don't know their head from their ass and believe whatever is told to them.
They don't remember what those two actually did, just that the media looks back and tells the public they did nothing wrong.

I love the first political cartoon to emerge from this: Obama with a toque pulled down over his ears -
"It sure ain't Hawaii!"

Re: Observations From the Obamagasm in Ottawa
I decided to run a short survey this AM to see how many times CBC Radio would mention the name Obama (PBUH) in one hour. From the start of the eight o'clock news until Deep Brown intro'd The Current 34 minutes later, His Name was mentioned 19 times. At that point I cut my survey short, since every morning, as soon as Deep Brown begins his intro, I invite him to perform a physical impossibility and switch to the local French Top 40 station.

From an ordinary citizen's perspective, it was difficult to
tell who was in town - Hannah Montana, or the President
of the United States.
Just bizarre.

My daughter was flying standby on AC from YOW to YVR yesterday on the 5pm nonstop. AF1 departure time was 5pm. Messed everything up at YOW. The next flight showing any kind of room to standby is Monday.
Every inauguration produces a big joyous love in. Reality eventually sets in and some good and some bad emerges. As with any of the past 4-5 presidents, I'll give Obama 12-16 months before getting too critical. He's been handed a basket case economy that no president can turn around in six months, assuming a president has that much influence which I don't think they do.

BMC,
I think the POTUS influence is enough to to turn an economy. Whether they make they make a good decision
?
Reagan in the Eighties,
Bush in 2002 after the 9/11 collapse.
I'm going to to give an honorable mention to FDR as well.
