Re: Aveos
I do.
Started out with Canadian Airlines...then became Air Canada...then Air Canada Technical Services and now Aveos. Although it's not quite Aveos yet...the transition hasn't happened yet. Not sure what to expect when the dust settles with that but I'll deal with it when the time comes.
Anyway...it's a very relaxed work environment...everyone gets along great. I can't imagine working anywhere else in this trade...nor would I want to.
The only drawback is the job security or lack there of. I've been laid off and recalled twice since 2007.
But then again, what job is "secure" in the aviation industry these days...or anywhere else for that matter?
I just take things day by day and feel fortunate to be earning a pretty decent paycheque for the time being.

Re: Aveos
hey thanks for the reply. That's good to hear. Thanks for the positive answer. I just got hired as an apprentice. And they guarantee me 2 years..so i'll be able to get my license.

Re: Aveos
There is a good chance you will get two years, it sounds like you are starting out so I won't be too negative. These people
are lying to you to get you in the door. There is no guarantee's. If it was me go get experience on M1 stuff first its easy to move up to M2 later. Not many guy's get M1's once they have a M2. The money as a M1 apprentice is not there but the reall
experience you will gain is well worth it. Plus when aveos cans you, you can go back and work on bug smashers. Disregard this if your a E or S.
Quick rule of thumb when dealing with AC/Aveos managment
Rule one: there is no rules
Rule two: if they'r lips are moving they are lying (there is some rare exceptions to this, some low level managers are ethical)
Rule three: if confused reffer to rule one
My first year at AC I laughed at this my nineth year at AC/Aveos i lived by this.

He's right dude........
They can't guarantee you anything, if they did then they are lying to get you in the door.

Re: Aveos
i appreciate you guys taking your time to answer, they were all wonderful to read.
You guys are all experienced engineers, and i am just a new guy. I'll soon experience what you guys are experiencing and if it sucks..then what do i have to say. It's all part of the game. And i guess i'll have to accept it.
It's kinda like me going into the new BCIT campus. You thinik BCIT is everything and after awhile, you start to find flaws and kinda complain and start to feel disappointed. When the new guy comes in, you tell them your experience and it's usually not the good ones. LOL. I know how it feels.
Thanks guys.
Anybody else want to share their experience?
I want to hear more

Re: Aveos
Hi, I used to work at Avios, the BS got to me after awhile and I quit. I just heard a rumour, and it's just a rumour, that they are moving all the Air Canada employees to Avios in June, and that there maybe a lay off in Spetember. Any truth in that?
As for the work environment, it was pretty bad when I left last April. Maybe it has improved, not according to the people I still have in contact there. This is in YWG. The guys are great, and even though morale is low, most of the guys do pull their weight.
For the 2 year work, don't trust what they say. I have known guys with the same assurance of 2 years work getting layed off after a few months. Remember, it's a union shop and senority counts for everything.

Re: Aveos
yea..i got hired to Winnipeg. Wow! seems pretty bad. Well, all i can say is, oops. What have i gotten myself into, but hey you never know what's gonna happen. Just go with the flow. It'll suck if i get can in a few months. I am starting in a week. God bless me.
But if you say the guys there are great, that's kind of good news for me. Working with good people makes my day.

Re: Aveos
Like any job, you got the good guys, and the bad.... YWG the guys are generally good with a few bad apples, but that's to be expected. I use to work the Jet Blue line (line 4), and I think that was the best line there. Not sure if Jet Blue are still around... My crew there was top notch, though. That helped alot.

JET BLUE gets there work done at another branch of Avious right now its in El Salvador they come to winnipeg every year and a half and get some airplanes done and when there caught up there 5 years deal is done and there gone till the next time there in a bind.
Hey acidgambit come by the erj line winnipeg when you get here and introduce yourself we still have a good group of guys to work with. If your young and single think of the job as an experience builder for your logbook jump into as many new jobs as you can, the money is good for an apprentice compared to a m1 apprentice job. Come to Winnipeg for the experience to fill your logbook as best you can don't go out and buy a new vehicle save some money pay off your student loan if you have one, take all the training they will give you.
p.s. oh ya new guys always buy coffee and donuts ya come by and say hi LOL

I started OAC in 85 in YWG (I'm now based in YVR), good thing is its relatively cheap to live there. Work as much OT as you can. Live in a apartment and have fun with the local gals. You'll learn to like the Jungle Jet and who knows the way its built it may to out to be a bigger money maker for you than the DC-10 was for me.

Re: Aveos
We are all still Air Canada employees for the time being. As I said before...the transition to Aveos hasn't taken place yet.
Employees will be sent registered letters with 7 transition options that they can choose from. At that time, they have 74 days to make their decision.
They can elect to become an employee of Aveos and keep their seniority and vacation etc or stay with Air Canada . There are also options where employees can retire/resign from Air Canada and accept a rehire with Aveos as a new employee.
The bottom line is...anyone who chooses to try and stay with Air Canada will be working in line maintenance. All heavy maintenance will be done by Aveos employees.
