Any tips on how to get a job up there. I have 950tt and a multi rating. Want to move there or anywhere up north at the end of this year.

for YZF if you do not know anyone there ,the best bet is to show up at the office of every operators on the field .
with your experience you might get some offers, pilots come and go quick , so if you are in the right place at the right time things will happen ,
I know it is a long way to drive up there but I think there is no other way ..

YZF's main companies are First Air, Arctic Sunwest, Tindi, Summit Air and Buffalo... Adlair I guess too. The only one that hires FO's really is First Air, but I your time is low for that. The other companies take their FO's off the ramp for the most part and only hire direct entry captains.

I don't know about Whitehorse, but if you go to YZF, expect the ramp.

Right now you might get the ramp at Buffalo, and I don't know at Adlair. The rest are either laying off, or very slow.

Times are pretty tough in Whitehorse as well, and it's not a good place for a low timer (historically speaking). You'll see more benefit from YZF.

I can't speak for Yellowknife but I know Whitehorse is lean for a low timer at the best of times, and we're far from the best of times. There's been a slew of layoffs recently.

I wouldn't want to be tryin to survive in the horse or yellowknife these days. The cost of living must be absolutely outrageous and no real work to be had. I was first in the horse in '74 and things were boomin with the road to nowhere under construction, I worked for willey oilfield hauling on the dempster. Like sure, you can go out and whack your firewood and a moose but is that a great way to live to cut down on expenses :? Unless you are some overpaid do nothing terrified govt. worker I cant imagine how ppl do it financially. Incidentally, are any bars left open there, 35 years ago there were about the same # in whitehorse alone? Back then, booze was the elixir to cure all ills and you could drink and drive provided you werent totally pissed out of your gourd :smt030 :smt030 :smt030 :smt030 . By the by, does the mouthy fling wing driver still run the Chalet?

If you are referring to John Flesher (fling wing) one of the owners of the Airport Chalet, sadly he was electrocuted erecting a sign at the chalet a number of years ago.

Oh well, nuff said there then, if I had known he was deceased I would have deleted the adjective. How are times in the horse these days, other than depressed?

I believe he was erecting a sign at the Airport Chalet from a hyab and and hit live wires.

Whitehorse is not busy at all, and most companies are laying off pilots.

Fogghorn, check your PMs.

John was erecting a sign south of town on the Alaska Highway. He was up in the bucket of a borrowed Northwestel manlift truck. His buddy running the thing from the ground accidently stuck him into 100,000 VAC.
