Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Hey,
Just have a question regarding the medical. Does anyone who have failed the Ishiara test (but holding a Cat 1 TC licence thanks to further testing) flying for Jazz? If yes what sort of other tests did they perform to consider you fit for the job?
Thanks in advance

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
If there is any issue regarding your eyesight you will be given a form to take to the eye doctor. They in turn will complete a full spectrum of testing, complete the form and you return the form to the AC medical office. If you currently hold a Cat 1 medical then I doubt this should be an issue. I assume of course you have a lantern test on file with TC if you have been having issues with the colour vision tests.
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I work for a 703 company, I love my job, and I'm not in a hurry to go to Jazz but I will still go to the interview. Maybe it's not the good decision to take according to the job market right now, or maybe it is. Anyway, The GS will probably not be until the summer so it gives me time to decide what's the best for me.
About the college grads, I'm really glad for you guys! I'm sure you'll do well! Maybe you didn't have the fun of flying up north and you won't have any bush flying stories to tell to your friends but dudes, fly for yourself, not for your friends!

I have to ask, if you are not in a hurry to go to Jazz, then why apply now? (I'm assuming you did by stating you'd still go to the interview).
I'm in the same boat. I love where I am. I fly with great people and I work under a very good management team. I'm in NO rush to go anywhere and could consider a career out of this (depending on who I marry and how deep HER pockets are lol). In either case, I wouldn't want to apply now because if I get called in for an interview, I don't want to be put in the position where I accept the interview, get offered a position, but don't really want to leave my current company. Telling Jazz thanks but no thanks is a great way to end a career with them that I didn't even get to start. So be very weary of that folks.
But I do agree Navajo, fly for yourself, not for others.
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I'm not in a hurry to go to Jazz because I really love my job and I am really happy where I am now. If Jazz would tell me "just come to see us whenever you want and we will give you a job", then it would be different and I would probably wait a year or two. But now, if I'm able to go through all the process, I'm sure I will take the job!
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
First I have heard of that, I think word would be around the pilot group if that was happening.Just another canuck wrote:Well, I don't work for Jazz, but I wish they would give me a call. And to be honest, it's quite frustrating and aggravating to know that a guy with a fresh CPL is in a ground school for Jazz and I can't even get a call.dream_big wrote:Last I herd, the college grads from 2008 are one of the first up for the ground schools this year. I hope people treat them with respect instead of all the other stuff I've seen on this forum to date! Are there many folks that would have been accepted last fall, just prior to the halt of training? IE A pool of folks awaiting a groundschool?
The reason these guys don't get respect... although I think it is more of a snubbing... is because they're Seneca guys with no experience. Seneca guys already have bad attitudes to begin with from my experience. Now, they get to go right seat RJ, while pilots like myself with more experience and skills remain unemployed. What's the difference between this and say, hiring a man of colour simply because he is of colour. The pilot who is best fit for the job should be given the first chance and no college grad out there is better fit than a pilot with real industry experience.
Not to mention, 2008 grads??? How many of them didn't bother to go and get other jobs? Did they just sit around and wait for Jazz to open back up the hiring? I guess they didn't want anything to do with a King air, or Caravan, or Twotter... they must be too good for that.
In the end, college grads/fresh CPL's will always have a hard time in a situation like this... the simple reason is they don't belong there. And you can't blame other pilots for holding small feeling of resentment against them. They've been given something that others had to work really hard for and you can never tell by their attitudes that they've been given something so precious. They take it for granted because they don't know any better.
If you are one of these grads dream_big, I'm not picking on you... this is just the way the majority of people feel. And it will never change.
I think he be trolling and caught you pretty good. But I understand your position.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Jazz is a great place to work, and you don't have to get up and clean the cabin and cross seat belts between turns like some carriers out there, plus you have union protection should you put one in the rhubarb... it's nice to have expensive lawyers when that happens.
And in response to KAG's post, although I respect him, AC is not going anywhere soon, although they are in rocky times now, they'll come out on top when this is all over... wouldn't quite worry about it, and I'd take the seniority number and not look back.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
i think you're generalizing quite a bit here. not all of the college grads hired by jazz were from seneca. not all seneca grads are douchebags. if the college grad successfully completes their training then they have just as much right to be at jazz than any other jazz pilot.Just another canuck wrote:And to be honest, it's quite frustrating and aggravating to know that a guy with a fresh CPL is in a ground school for Jazz and I can't even get a call. Yeah, I got caught for sure I would say...Pratt wrote:First I have heard of that, I think word would be around the pilot group if that was happening.

I hope they fill spots with experienced pilots but if not, oh well... thanks for understanding.

Yeah, I'll admit I was being a tad harsh to the Seneca guys. And I actually thought all the college grads they hired were from Seneca... thought Jazz and Seneca had a program. I don't know where I heard that from.mattedfred wrote:i think you're generalizing quite a bit here. not all of the college grads hired by jazz were from seneca. not all seneca grads are douchebags. if the college grad successfully completes their training then they have just as much right to be at jazz than any other jazz pilot.
I also admit that they have a right to be there. I still don't think they should be. It would be interesting to know how the RJ and Dash captains feel about it as a whole or the general public for that matter.
Anyway, good luck to all those who applied.

Cheers.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Your right AC isn't going anywhere soon, but neither are they going to be hire. Also, does anyone have any current numbers on the Jazz pilots that went to AC over the last 4 years? I know a bunch did, but the numbers leaned way towards not getting the job - although that could easily change next round of hiring.moreccsplease wrote:Jazz is a great place to work, and you don't have to get up and clean the cabin and cross seat belts between turns like some carriers out there, plus you have union protection should you put one in the rhubarb... it's nice to have expensive lawyers when that happens.

All I'm saying is to really think about what you’re going to do, what your goals are, and is this the best time to be possibly placing yourself in an unemployment position IF things continue to go south. I truely hope they don't.
Jazz is a great job with lots of perks, but knowing what I know now, I would rather ride out this storm in financial comfort with your respective companies then to jump to a right seat Dash/RJ job. This all assumes you’re making good money where you’re at. If your current pay is the same or even close it’s a no brainier – Go to Jazz, your lifestyle will drastically improve.
Either way, good luck to those that do go.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
The ratio of guys hired off the street vs, from Jazz was within 2%. That came from the VP of flight ops at AC. It's a massively incorrect rumour that being from Jazz somehow destroyed your chances of getting on. It wasn't easy for anyone to get on. Lots of great people from every company got turned down. Jazz was no different in the PFO respect.
On the same note, I personally think Jazz should of had an advantage. They were the closest thing to mainline in many respects going in Canada. Perhaps if LOU 18 is removed in the next negotiations things can make a bit more sense next hiring round.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
While in the crew room yesterday, one of the chiefs was mentioning that they've interviewed their candidates and that the files are gone to the HR dept for review. He did mention that they still might interview more, depending on how many pilots decide to move on. First course date tentatively scheduled for the end of March.Mclovin wrote:So just wondering anyone been hired yet......just wondering where the process is at
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
More interviews are still scheduled for next week. My guess is that those interviewee's if successful would have an April start date at the earliest.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I heard that the first groundschool was filled with 8 people? Is this correct? If they plan to hire 45 people from what others have said that makes roughly 5-6 groundschools. I also heard that they havent completed their interviews yet. Can anyone confirm this?
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Yep the first groundschool is on the 23rd of this month. Interviews are still going a buddy of mine just got called last week for an interivew on the 17th in YYC. Good Luck to all those who have applied, its really a great gig.

Hey Boys,
Just an update,
They checked my references last Friday, did my medical Monday and I my sim Tuesday.
Just waiting for the answer now, I heard that they send their PFO's by email now...so I kind of regret killing the mailman
Hopefully my phone will ring soon...I am going nuts

Hey just curious you couple of ppl that have upcoming interviews wondering what type and how much time you have....just trying to get a feel for how competetive the applicants areduckfoot wrote:I have an interview in a week so they aren't done yet.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I spoke to a management type the other day. Applicants had between 1500-4000 hours, those being the extreme edges of the experience that was interviewed with most I think in the 2-3000 range. Most if not all were left seat on small turboporops ie. 1900, King Airs and PC12s. Anyone else care to comment?

That is accurate in regards to my total time (3400 hrs) but the guy that interviewed ahead of me had 250 hrs total and was a graduate of Mount Royal in 2008!

I'm at the lower end of their requirements and was really hoping for a call... oh, well... in my case, probably for the better. I've moved on.
