Ramp Jobs in YYZ

Post by props ahead »

Just wondering if anybody knew of any companies that hire low timers(1300TT) for ramp positions that lead to flying positions. I cant find anything elsewhere and the companies I have looked at arent even hiring for the ramp. I need to do something in the meantime because im going crazy! Do you think the spring hire is still going to come this year even with the current economy?

There is no one hiring ramp rats in YYZ that will have any chance of becoming a pilot. Go fly, you have enough time.

"Go Fly, you have enough time"
I wish it were that simple....I have been applying everywhere! follow up calls with every resume, visits to the companies I am close to....all are saying the same thing that they have tonnes of resumes and guys with relatively high time filling the positions.....or internal.
I need to start working again while im looking for my next opportunity to fly and was hoping to stay in the industry. I have never worked around YYZ and just looking for some advice on places I may not have already tried.

When I was instructing near the Toronto area I also worked the ramp at the Shell Aerocentre back in 04. I started part-time initially then full-time. It definitely helped out financially but more importantly it gave me the opportunity to make contacts and eventually lead to the right seat of a Metroliner. Once they get to know you, I think some of the operators at the north end will consider you. If you're really hell bent on staying in YYZ it's not a bad deal. Go talk to the manager at Landmark (Aerocentre). No guarantees of a flying position, however, you'll meet plenty of people who could help you out.

Well there's American Eagle looking for a ramp manager in YYZ now. But again, none of these are leading to a flying job. But hey, if you're unemployed, it keeps you in our field. Which I feel is highly desirable for the right pay and conditions (that's not a pass to go be a slave).

North, East, South, West I have looked everywhere...I would love to find something down south but I would go back up north.

Aren't there fishing companies hiring pilots with float ratings to fly fishermen or hunters to remote areas in the north??
