Porter

Hey folks, just wondering what experience some of you had before you got hired on as f/o at Porter. Got 2700 hours, mostly dash-8 time. Sent my application last week, wondering where I stand.

Thanks

That last post is a joke right?

Probably little to none, thinking that actual experience might be worth something though. Pay is better than Jazz, but not a whole lot, less healthcare and extensive travel benefits, but so was Westjet X-years ago.

Yes, we've hired at least 30 so far this year, yes, we've hired below 3000TT, yes, we're upgrading all the time, yes, we're still hiring direct entry captains and yes, as soon as you've got 500TT on the Q400 you'll be looked at, based on your other flying experience, initial and recurrent PPC's and general attitude. :P

10 more Q400's arriving this year......$20 million terminal expansion.....more Q4's soon to be ordered....

Good luck to all!

It’s too bad Porter is based in a hostile tax environment with high cost of living. This has just been made worse by the TaxOntario government wimps caving in to the feds and agreeing to introduce the combined predatory tax. Thank goodness I live out west! Any chance of Porter starting operations out west?

HA!! Ya I agree the taxes and a little bit higher in Ontario, but I'm sorry, the cost to live out west is well higher than Toronto.

Being from Toronto and having lived in both yvr and yyc, I always get a chuckle from those that believe Toronto is expensive. Relatively speaking, it's not. The west, especially Alberta, and I think many will agree, is well overpriced. Semi detached town homes in Edmonton for 350+, you must be kidding me. I'm not saying that one place is better than the other, as each city has it's own goods and bads, but if you can afford to live in yvr, yyc, yeg or any of the other surrounding areas, you can def afford Southern Ontario.

Hey guys,
I really like the Porter brand and their business plan. I just got called for an interview but I'm in the process at Jazz (everything done just waiting for security clearance) . I know Jazz has really good benefits and passes but the upgrade time is about 9 years. Would It be better for me to come to Porter? How do you guys like it there? Can I jumpseat on my days off to YUL? I d'ont mind staying in Toronto.

Thanks alot

What is Porters policy on commuting? I've heard from a few that they prefer their pilots to live within 1.5 hours of city centre and that they frown on commuting. At the same time i've heard some guys commute from Ottawa though. Would they allow a guy to live in Ottawa or soon Thunder Bay and commute? I understand that you'd have to be close for reserve periods but what about the rest of the time?

Well Clark, for those of us who can't fly to work, some car pool, walk, bike, park on the street and take your chances, GoTrain, TTC, monthly parking pass ($85 range depending on which lot).
Cheers.
