Re: Instructor Prep by Dale Nielsen
Good Morning,
I mainly used the SabreJet product to prepare for my written exam.
However, Mr. Neilsen's book was a great supplement when I was away from my computer.
I found Mr. Nielsen's product especially helpful for use in preparing P.G.I.s & I keep it handy to thumb through as a refresher during down times.
The best suggestion I can offer is to always use as many valid resources that can reasonably be acquired.
Thanks, Audi.

Re: Instructor Prep by Dale Nielsen
I bought Dale's book during the latest refresher course. I am still doing my regular line flying right now, so I hadn't had much chance to read it.
I found some of his stuff to be particularly useful in ground preparation, and creation of training aids, particularly fridge magnets. PGI is a significant change from my original days of instruction. In the 70's and 80's, all of this was rolled into the groundschool, which drew almost exclusively from From the Ground Up, and the Pultz manuals.
So now, in addition to normal group classroom work, we have a one on one classroom session. Usually in a small cubicle, away from all the handy classroom toys: Digital projector, cutaways, etc. I can see great application to my PGI creation from Dale's book.
The FIG was a small blue book back in the day. The size of a small Jepp binder. So patter cards fit in there pretty well, and if a student hadn't studied or grasped the groundschool materials, we could pull the FIG out and run through the patter cards. I can see now that I will be using Staple's expertise to print the FIG Jepp-sized, and double sided, to re-create my ond long-lost FIG. My patter cards are likely going to be on my ipod as a slideshow. If Mrs Curious authorizes the funds, then on an Touch, as a slideshow, and as a flashcard app. Fridge magnets for a great many things come to mind.
I haven't looked at the chapters discussing the exam study prep. I'll let you know.
I made the bookstore very happy while I was in YYZ. Sabre, the un-nameable "C", and sundry others. I'll let you know next month what I thought of all of them when I write my Airat and Fiten.

I let my rating expire 24 years ago, so, more trouble for me. Thanks though.
