ya its down and he is on the run , but seriously Only the U.S will chase a C172 with a F16 , canada run after it with a stick, maybe even a fast walk

A federal law enforcement official told CNN the pilot is a naturalized Canadian citizen, but declined to give his name or country of origin. The source said the pilot was a flight school student for a "brief" period and only clocked a few hours of flight time.

Canadian officials have received some information that the pilot is "not a happy individual," the official said.

The Cessna departed at about 3 p.m. ET and flew over Lake Superior less than half an hour later, according to NORAD officials. F-16 fighter jets intercepted the pilot near Michigan's upper peninsula border with Wisconsin at 4:43 p.m., and have tracked the Cessna since...

Watch the media blow this one out of proportion now. I know it was a big deal but there will be talks of stiffening up security and all kinds of other bullshit.... he's certainly got everyones attention.

Glad he's safe on the ground, but he's got some tough times ahead now.

Praise to the NORAD rep seen on CNN. Would expect the CNN expert to say "Shoot 'em down," situation was definitely handled properly and since the CNN expert says so, the rest of America will believe so.

They are going on about the huge security threat this could have posed. NORAD expert saying you could pack some weapons of destruction in a small GA a/c. How long until the yanks make me take my shoes off before flying my plane?

This is the worst part. Now there is going to be a bunch of bs and concerns over security and bad publicity that GA doesn't need.

We don't even have an airport fence!

They will probably make a big deal about the keys being in the plane too. I've got five keys in my office that haven't failed me yet to get into and start an aircraft. And anything as big as a light twin doesn't have keys anyways.

I'll try to be more sensitive in the future so nobody makes fun at my expense when I steal an aircraft, violate the airspace of another country, disregard orders from their armed forces, and then run away.
