Hypoxic Awareness Training
Hi,
I was reading recently about the underwater egress courses, and was wondering if there are any hypoxia awareness training courses in Canada? I'm referring to the actual hyperbaric chamber training courses, not slideshows or anything. I know there are a few offered in the States (through the FAA). Has anyone done one? Would you recommend it?

Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
Simon Fraser University has a chamber and put on a course a few years ago. I believe you have to get a group together and get hold of them and they will do a one day course.
Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
Just do not try the Michael Hutchence plastic bag and belt round the door knob ,pants round the ankles hypoxia trick ,can be fatal

Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
I don't know if I would recommend depriving the brain of oxygen for training or not. You would definitely have to look into the medical aspects of this recognition training to see if there were any short term or long term effects. Seems like a potential for brain damage.
Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
start out sober, line up 6 shots of rye, scotch, whiskey whatever
do all 6 shots as quick as possible.
sit
wait
feel the effects of hypoxia
fun and edumacational

Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
Interesting point. I know that the USAF have been doing testing/training for pilots for over 60 years, so I would suspect that if there were any adverse effects they would know. Also the FAA offers courses for pilots on a regular basis. Nevertheless I would do more in-depth research prior to ever doing a course.Ag Driver wrote:I don't know if I would recommend depriving the brain of oxygen for training or not. Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
I ve heard that a place Ontario has a chamber but I dont know if they do courses I would love to take a course like this also.
Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
Fly up north for a few years in uncontrolled airspace. You'll learn how high you can go and feel the effects of hypoxia without being pressurized or sucking on oxygen.
Fun times!

Re: Hypoxic Awareness Training
I've done the chamber rides a couple of times over the years. TC used to arrange with DND to do both the theoretical training and the chamber rides and make it all available to area operators at no cost. Don't know if they still do.
