Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
As a career AC commuter (20 plus years) my 2 cents.
* A Jazz pilot is ALWAYS welcome in my cockpit.
* I always ask the Captain when jumpseating on my own airline if he minds if I listen in on the radio.
* I have never asked the same question on Jazz but I have been offered a headset (I'll still wait till its offered thank you very much).
* I still knock on the open flight deck door before coming in and I introduce myself to the Captain and F/O and ensure they know about me.
* I always thank them in advance for the jumpseat.
* I always thank them on leaving again and remind them they are welcome in my cockpit too.
As an aside I would never comment on politics when riding in the Jazz jumpseat since that would be rude for a guest.

Perfect ... Just a plain common sense approach ... the way it should be. There is never an excuse to refuse a jumpseat (outside the normal reasons ie. W&B) to anyone. Com'on guys ... we're all in this together regardless of where you work or what you fly. We're pilots and we've all done the crappy jobs, in crappy parts of the country/world. I honestly think that we all forget where we came from. Get rid of this all about me crap, and think of everyone as a whole ... because when everyone is happy that usually includes you too. Don't ever strand someone from getting to there family ... they may only have one day with them before getting back in that seat.* A Jazz pilot is ALWAYS welcome in my cockpit.

Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
Guys, with all due respect when in someone else's flightdeck, DO NOT preach how you think that the EMJ's will be going to Jazz.
The age old "Idiot Factor" never changes. Furthermore, the percentage is the same at every company.
We ALL have our required 10% "@$$ hole" factor.
ANYBODY that thinks the AC Pilots would sanction the elimination of a Fleet, the size of the EMB's, is kidding themselves.
The Airline would be shut down within seconds.
Personally, I will take a Pilot (any Pilot that is eligible) in the Jumpseat, over any other employee.
There is NO brownie badge at the end of the day, for corporate loyalty.
The Paint Schemes change, the Executives "rape and pillage," the other employee groups ride on our coat tails....
There is not much left, if we don't stick together as a Professional group.

Leadfoot,
You showed great restraint in not booting this tool off your plane, I'm sure it would have been tempting even at 350! Hopefull the D-bag will realize that the flight deck is not the place for company politics, and that in the end we are all on the same side of the cockpit door.

So Rick, when are you going to change your username to A330?
Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
I believe this is a long lost behavior called "professional courtesy", that seems to have become very rare in Jazz/AC pilot dealings. My hat's off to you as an example of what a true gentleman and professional is about.B767300 wrote:As a career AC commuter (20 plus years) my 2 cents.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in....
I read once about a jumpseater (but from another airline so using the reciprocal program) bringing some tim horton coffee coupons to the flightdeck to show a bit of appreciation.....
I was quite impressed by that gesture and it gave me a bit of a wakeup....that whenever we are using that it is actually a privilage....
Professional courtesy goes a long way....
And since then....whenever I travel jumpseat with another company....i try and bring something up to the fltdeck....at the very least a big thank you.
And if i'm ever in the actual office????? come on....leave politics out!!!! There's enough stuff going on in the world to fill the void with chit chat...or if you can't think of anything outside of controversial topics.....well.....you've got other issues.

Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
I have flown that person and it was very much appreciated.
I make a point of always sticking my head in the "office" or atleast saying a "thanks for the ride" even when deadheading. A little proffessional courtesy goes a long way especially in this industry which tends to lack some from time to time.

Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
As a colleague of this Jazz pilot I am disgusted to hear this sort of thing is going on and offer an apology to you and your coworkers on behalf of the majority of good people at Jazz . We have companies and unions that pit us against each other, the last thing we need is morons spouting off about their pipe dreams.
If you can pass along the name(s) of these individuals to me I will make sure their names get passed along to our alpa jumpseat rep.

Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
As much as I agree that such topics are best not talked about while jumpseating, AC pilots are not exactly wearing any halos either.
At one of our general meetings one of the guys related a story how one of your elected reps. who happened to be the f/o of the flight [319] was telling him how he [Jazz pilot] should make the move to AC asap because Jazz was not going to be around for very much longer after contract negots were completed. The impression was that ACPA was going to go all out to make sure that happened.
So the next time a j/s guy might make a unwarranted statement, just remember you guys at AC ain't exactly without fault either.

Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
I commute from yqr-yvr and Jazz, WJ aside is my ride to work. I have been in the flight deck a few times and have been more than welcomed everytime. I, like Rick knock, introduce myself and thank the guys/gals for allowing me in their flight deck. I thank them again upon deplaning. I speak when spoken too (silent cockpit below 10,000), and have had some good conversations with the crews and they are all very accommodating. We all share the same trials and tribulations at work. They are most often willing to share their stories and mine. Politics only if it comes up. I have even put out the invite to come to my house in yqr. Unfortunately nobody has taken me up yet. As a fellow commuter, I would never turn away a j/s rider. We are all in this together. Common "Sense"/Courtesy goes along way in this industry.
Fly safe guys/gals.
You are always welcome in my flight deck.
Cheers

I had a jumpseater from KFC on my flight. Although he was not actually in the jumpseat but rather using the reciprocal to sit in the back, he still came up to say hello and thank you. This is when he gave us a Tim Horton's coffee coupon and said, "here lemme by you guys a coffee for the next stop over."
This simple gesture elevated KFC and their entire pilot group to the top of the class list in my opinion. Yes, professional courtesy does go a long way. Too bad we have some who just don't get it.
Standby for new atis message
Re: jazz guys in the jumpseat
You do realize that ACPA is powerless in such decisions, right? That would be the tail wagging the dog. Our job as members within the association is to complain about the executive decisions handed to us.JazzJetDriver wrote:As much as I agree that such topics are best not talked about while jumpseating, AC pilots are not exactly wearing any halos either.

There aren't too many A319 F/Os who are ACPA reps (there were only 3); maybe it was me who he is referring to. I did tell a Jazz pilot once who was commuting on my flight that if he wanted to come over to Air Canada, to do it rather sooner than later, since there was a big push to cancel LOU 18 once Negots started. Nevertheless, I said this a couple of years ago (no longer a rep now), when AC was still hiring.

I doubt it, she didn't have that much pull - she was a just flight attendant after all.
P.S. What does this have to do with this thread? I thought this was about jumpseat protocol?

For what it's worth, I'm in London at the moment, enjoying what has so far been a super vacation. I never got to thank the crew of AC 848 YYZ-LHR on Wednesday, the 22nd of this month. My girlfriend, her father and I had a super trip and really appreciated it.
A happy Jazz guy.

I think that if you stick to the dotted lines when making the folds your might have some aviation success.

Couples of months ago we had an ac pilot on my flight yvr to ycg. She had 3 movies that she bought in china for probably a dollar or two so even one for the fa. I found it was a great idea and really nice of her. Thanks again. Always a pleasure to have you inboard fellow pilots. And as am fo I always challenge the few captains that are never happy with jumpseater........whichever airline they are.
amazing
