Yup...that was a typo on my part. Thanks, I will correct it. Cheers
I was typing too fast because I was stunned by some of the posts. I would like to think that if a fellow pilot found himself in some sort of a situation, fellow pilots would circle the wagons, at least until the facts actually came to light anyway.
Little wonder why pilots are likened to prostitutes. At least prostitutes look out for each other.

To my knowledge, there have been 3 previous instances where an LHR security screener "smelt alcohol on a pilot", who subsequently turned out to be stone cold sober. Perhaps some of them are on a power trip and this is their way of getting back at a pilot showing them some attitude, perhaps they are just plain stupid, but this needs to be looked at. If you smell even slightly of alcohol, you are going to blow waaaay over 0.009. Given the number of times that this is happening at LHR, the great damage it does to an airlines reputation, and the severe psycological stress it places upon the pilot involved, LHR should start looking at their own operation.
I don't know any of the details about this incident but all the best to the guy involved. If he is innocent, I'd say a 6 month stress leave might help make it right, hopefully paid for by the LHR airport authority.

Perhaps I was not too clear with my original post. I never intended to 'bash' the pilot involved and I was not negatively referring to him with my comments. If some felt this way, I truly apologize for that. Once again, I state that I hope he is cleared of all this and life will go on for him. Worst case, if he is cleared he can sue the newspapers involved and make more money than most will make in 10 years.
I was instead referring to some of the other stories people posted about drinking heavily the night before a flight. This is not safe, and I stick to my guns about this. And this is not about what type of aircraft I fly or what experience I have. This is common sense folks. And someone telling me this behavior is OK because they fly for money, well, it's your opinion.
I just really hope I don't end up sitting 15 rows behind you the next time I hop on a plane, that's all.

Can you please point out where someone said it's okay to drink heavily and then fly a plane because they fly for a commercial operation?
You seem to run on ad nauseam about this, but I haven't read a post that even slightly leaned this way. I don't know if you feel like you need to preach about the issue, but perhaps start a new thread if that's your intent.

LOL, that's a good one! So trueJaques Strappe wrote:Little wonder why pilots are likened to prostitutes. At least prostitutes look out for each other.
A glass of wine, a blonde bombshell flight attendant, a nagging erection....all possible accident causes.

There wouldn't be so many problems in the world if it weren't for nagging erections.
Re: AC driver busted for still being drunk, hours later!
I might use that quote Jacques.
It was a little disheartening to see how many people were ready to jump on their fellow aviator. It was a good reminder to question what's being fed to us by the media though. Glad to hear he is getting his life back.
Of course, it was also a good that some light was shone on the issue of alcohol abuse and how it doesn't mix with aviation. At least we're talking about it.
