Re: Porter/pearson rumor
Here's a rumour for you. Porter came into YYZ today. Parked then went into Bombardier's hangar. Is this a new one?

Re: Porter/pearson rumor
What I noticed is that all deliveries go to YYZ then Porter seem to accept the plane and take it to YTZ.dashx wrote:Here's a rumour for you. Porter came into YYZ today. Parked then went into Bombardier's hangar. Is this a new one?
No idea why this is done this way.
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
The acceptance centre for Bombardier is at midfield. My question still stands.
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
Does Jazz not fly into sydney? Not terribly exclusive.tailgunner wrote:Sydney Nova Scotia....with regards to Sunwing....
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
The Porter aircraft at YYZ right now has a huge dent just forward of the entry door. This doesn't look like a delivery aircraft to me. It looks like Bombardier is repairing it at their delivery center.

Re: Porter/pearson rumor
After a quick google search I found this:
DO YOU THINK IT’S FAIR TO SMALLER REGIONAL AIRLINES SUCH AS YOURS WHEN AIRPORTS OFFER SPECIAL SUBSIDIES AND CONCESSIONS TO BRING IN NATIONALBRAND LOW FARE AIRLINES IN PARTICULAR (FOR EXAMPLE, WESTJET INTO CHARLOTTETOWN AND GANDER)? AND DO YOU THINK GANDER’S EXPERIENCE WITH WESTJET IN PARTICULAR DEMONSTRATES JUST HOW WELL THIS WORKS?
I think Gander is still in denial about what happened … and you know it’s a typical scenario, it’s almost Canadian philosophy: “the Gods live somewhere else.” So we can’t possibly look to local carriers to answer our needs, we must bring them in from somewhere else. And that particular regional mentality that exists in Canadian markets is what has crushed a lot of regional carriers from British Columbia to Nunavut to Newfoundland and Labrador to Nova Scotia – all corners. It’s crushed a lot of carriers, and it’s not the inability of regional carriers to be flexible, or to respond to needs. It’s a question of this regional mentality.
We’re not really that interested in what WestJet does, to be honest. We’re not really that interested in what many of the discount airlines do. We’re interested in becoming the best regional airline in Eastern Canada – that’s our goal.

Is the smaller regional you are referring to Jazz??
I say again, sydney is not served exclusively by WJ.
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
What happened in Gander?I think Gander is still in denial about what happened
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
True, but the YQY airport authority subsidized WJ to provide direct YYZ service. Jazz does the YHZ sked, without subsidy. I believe Canjet was going to provide a direct YYZ service as well, which the airport authority is blocking.double-j wrote:I say again, sydney is not served exclusively by WJ.
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
Someone had asked about deals that certain airlines get from airport authorites, "double-j" asked, "such as", and I posted the above.

Re: Porter/pearson rumor
No, I asked which airports does westjet have exclusion deals with the airport operator to maintain their exclusivity? Sydney is operated by both WJ and Jazz. Nothing "exclusive" there.tailgunner wrote:Jastapilot, are you talking about the free market where every company is allowed to operate, or the free market where a certain teal colored airline has exclusion deals with the airport operator to maintain their exclusivity?
With the so called subsidy deal between cyyg and WJ, no money was paid out to WJ because they made their minimum quota. This is business folks it happens all the time between all carriers, cities want a new service, and sometimes will make min guarantees to airlines.
Lastly, I read the article about the airport manager at sydney not wanting sunwing. Nowhere did it say anything about westjet putting up roadblocks. But you guys are all pilots so you must know the inner workings of airline-airport negotiations.

Do you really think you can believe at face value what is said publicly or even semi privately?

False.True, but the YQY airport authority subsidized WJ to provide direct YYZ service.
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
So what you are saying is that you have no knowledge, insider info, or proof. You are just going on your own assumptions. Gotcha, great detective work tips..
Do you know what was said semi-privately or do you just love a conspiracy?teacher wrote:Do you raelly think you can believe at face value what is said publicly or even semi privately?
Re: Porter/pearson rumor
This is old news I know and even though (I think someone posted earlier) that no money actually did change hands it does take the risk away to entice another private company to fly in. I'm just reponding to a post about certain airlines getting deals by airport authorities and govornment.
Do I believe everything posted on forums, of course not. I don't need to excercise with the amount of salt I shovel over my shoulder after reading some of these posts.
Airline threatens to cut P.E.I. service
Last updated Apr 26 2005 01:08 PM ADT
CBC News CHARLOTTETOWN – Air Canada has pulled its plans to add extra summer capacity between Toronto and Charlottetown and said it's reviewing its service to P.E.I. in the wake of the Binns government's deal with WestJet.
The airline sent a letter to Premier Pat Binns saying it is unhappy the province is "subsidizing" a new service during the lucrative summer months.
In an announcement last Wednesday, the government said it secured a daily WestJet flight to Toronto, with a connection to Vancouver. The deal includes a revenue guarantee.
That could see taxpayers shelling out up to $300,000 if Westjet fails to meet projected revenues on the service it is starting on June 28.
It is similar to the $200,000 revenue agreement the Binns government signed in January to attract Northwest Airlink to provide a summer flight between the Island and Detroit.
Air Canada's letter says the revenue deal amounts to a subsidy to its direct competition.
"I would like to register our strong objections to your government's subsidization of a competing carrier on a route that is already served by Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz," wrote Lyse Charette, the airline's senior director of corporate affairs.
The letter goes on to say Air Canada is also cancelling plans it had to add passenger and cargo capacity to its Charlottetown operations this summer.
Air Canada is switching to smaller planes, with all service to the province being provided by its Jazz brand. The tourism minister had expressed concerns about the lack of room on the planes the carrier has chosen to use.
"I regret to inform you that your actions have forced Air Canada to cancel its plans, outlined in my letter of April 15th to the Prince Edward Island Minister of Transportation, to add overall passenger and cargo capacity to Charlottetown this summer compared to summer of 2004," the letter says.
Air Canada said it did not release the letter to the media. A spokesperson for the company refused to say what the company is looking for from the province.
She added that Air Canada doesn't want to negotiate with the province through the media.
Tourism PEI will also spend $215,000 to promote the new WestJet and Northwest Airlink flights.
