THe Future of SkyService
Just wondering if anyone had something insightful to say about the future of SkyService?
With the closure of Conquest (one of Skyservices client), is there any discussion on how the airline plans to handle its fleet, and more importantly its employees?
l certainly hope that SkyService does not end up on the bottom of a wikipedia list, as yet another one of Canada's defunct airlines.

Re: THe Future of SkyService
If I remember correctly, SkyService signed a 5 year extension with Signature Vacations earlier this year to continue as their carrier of choice. Signature is backed by the TUI group of companies which is a pretty big industry heavy-weight so I think they are in a reasonable spot to ride out the current economic storm. How healthy the other tour operators that SkyService operates for is another question but I think we will continue to see a slightly shrunken SkyService continuing to operate for a while longer at least.
Re: THe Future of SkyService
Skyservice had already stopped doing a lot of flying for Conquest, Canjet was providing a lot of their uplift this season.
Having said that, Skyservice is cut back this summer.

Re: THe Future of SkyService
Skyservice is financially sound. The Airline only operated 4% of Conquest's lift. You will see a smaller Skyservice through out this summer as the airline is shrinking to meet the needs of the tour operators as a result of the economy but you will see the airline in full force again come next winter and summer. As we are all aware tones of rumors flying around, don't believe everything you hear on the street
Re: THe Future of SkyService
What percentage of SSV's business does that equate to?

Skyservice Airlines announces full winter 2009 - 2010 flying schedule for largest customers

- Union leadership recognized for contribution to maintaining and
enhancing Skyservice Airlines' competitive position
TORONTO, May 13 /CNW/ - Skyservice Airlines today announced a full 2009 -
2010 winter flying schedule with its two largest customers. The company will
operate eight aircraft for Sunquest Vacations and another eight for Signature
Vacations, all serving traditional southern sun destinations.
Fundamental to Skyservice Airlines' success in signing this business was
a cooperative approach by its stakeholders to maintaining and enhancing the
carrier's competitive position.
Skyservice Airlines President and CEO Rob Giguere said: "While the media
is full of bad news about airline overcapacity and financial losses,
Skyservice Airlines employees have worked together as a team to ensure that
our company continues to win its customers' business and their continuing
confidence."
"The Skyservice Pilot's Association of Canada (SkyPAC) and the Skyservice
Cabin Crew Association have participated in changes that have improved our
competitive position," Giguere said. "We have concluded positive labour
agreements that are good for our company, our customers and in turn our
employees."
Captain Fred Ambs, President of SkyPAC, added: "All Skyservice Airlines'
employees benefit from a strong and competitive company and we can all take
pride in our roles in working together toward that goal."
During the winter season, Skyservice Airlines employs approximately 165
pilots, 600 cabin crew and 120 aircraft maintenance mechanics, as well as more
than 300 staff in other functions.
These winter flying contracts will mark the eighth year Skyservice has
served Signature Vacations and the fifteenth year serving Sunquest. The
company's 2009 summer schedule will see four aircraft and crews based in
Europe and two aircraft based in Canada.

Re: THe Future of SkyService
Skyservice will be very slow this summer as they recently laid off 50+ pilots out of YYZ. I dare say their training costs are about to go up this fall...

Funny how Skyservice can announce a full winter schedule less than 10 days after confirming that they will not be operating of Alberta/BC this winter.

Sounds to me like they won't be basing flight attendants out west. Doesn't say they won't be operating.
Re: THe Future of SkyService
No flight attendant's based, pilot base in question.. and no airplane's based in AB/BC... no flying period. Laid-off 6 AME's.Sounds to me like they won't be basing flight attendants out west. Doesn't say they won't be operating
