Transport Canada - New Licence booklet
So its been over three months and still no word on my new licence from Transport. Called them a few days ago only to be told there was a backlog and staffing issue and to hang tight. Funnily enough I just had my medical and within days received a letter asking for their fee, no staffing issues here when they want something its fast enough, go figure.
Re: Transport Canada
Weird... Mine was a CPL, I sent it in March and got it back two weeks later... I took it directly in to TC...
Re: Transport Canada
I mailed mine in the middle of April & got the commercial one back in under 2 weeks .Located in the Vancouver region.

Will call them again on Monday and see whats keeping them.
Re: Transport Canada
No problem guys, I mailed my application in December 2008 and still no licence. I called last month to confirm they actually got it. Of course I got the song they are backlogged. When ever TC has asked me for a piece of paperwork and I have said I'm backed logged, they've wanted to shut me down or fine me!!!

Re: Transport Canada
Mailed my licence in roughly mid March. PPL from Ottawa. Got it first week of April.
Re: Transport Canada
Walked into the Hamilton Ontario branch 2 weeks ago with my fresh medical and they told me I had to also fill in an application for the new license.
Went home had pics taken etc and went back the next day and dealt with another TC rep.
She validated my PPL but said that she would not process my new license form as they were only doing CPL at present.
She took my pics and application etc and said she would put them in my file.
Who knows when I will see this get processed ????????

...isn't he the best pilot you've ever seen?....Yeah he is ....except when I'm shaving.........
Re: Transport Canada
Just to add a little balance. I needed some documents from TC for a foreign license conversion.
they did it from 6000 miles away in hours.
It may be that with the budget restrictions they dont have enough people and new licenses are not a priority item. Personally I would like to keep it that way.
I dont have a nice new TC license (ATPL), but my old one seems to work just fine so maybe cut them a little slack instead of all the bitching . I am willing to bet your old licenses will work and the folks that need a new license issued should have priority...
...just saying is all.

Those are the marvels of the internet. They could not have done that in the 1930's at all.polar one wrote:Just to add a little balance. I needed some documents from TC for a foreign license conversion.

Re: Transport Canada
FYI
I called about my new license and was told that if your medical is close to being expired (which mine was) they will not issue a new license till you obtain a new medical. This way they can print the most current medical on the license. They don’t want to send out license that are printed with expired or soon to be expired medicals.

Click on THIS LINK and select "Transport Canada - General Aviation On-Line Services". Provided you have registered for an epass, you can now access your file. It will show you the status of your new licence i.e. if its been printed or mailed. You can also see the results of all previous written and flight tests, when you had your last audiogram, ECG and medical. Kinda handy.

Ya not like every other federal government agency is so much more streamlined. I think we would have to complain about the whole system not just TC.
Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
I sent my original request in back in ... January I think, maybe earlier.
Three weeks ago I had to go into the Burrard office in Vancouver and while I was there I asked about my booklet. They couldn't even find my application! They say it never arrived!
So an extra $16 for a photo later and the next day I re-submitted it. Haven't seen it yet but at least this time I know its in their system.

AME 283 I have read all your posts and would like to correct something that you have wrong in this one.
It is spelled bureaucrats.burocrates.
Other than that don't pay any attention to any of TC's defenders because you have it correct, TC is in need of a complete house cleaning.
I don't work for TC but I can definitely support my belief that TC needs a house cleaning with irrefutable documentation that some of the top management think they are above the law...

You left out the portion where you usually say ... "I'd rather deal with common street criminals, at least I'd know what to expect of those thugs."
Now, on topic ... I applied in late March and had mine in the mail about 3 weeks later. And .. I like the look of it too.
I think they did a good job on that project, but it renders my 30+ year old ATPL Licence Holder that I bought from Reilly Burke, owner of Bomber Joe's Books in the south terminal. I guess I can't say I didn't get my money's worth out of that purchase for something like $4.95.
Still, I think I should file suit against the federal govt to recover my pro-rated financial damages for making my previous licence holder obsolete when it still had some very good years left in it....those moral degenerates knew they would inconvenience me personally, that's why they went to the new format ... I just know it.
Because it was done maliciously, and aimed at me personally, I can claim punitive damages as well.

Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
Upon further investigation Mr. Fogducker it was discovered that you also used the aforementioned "licence holder" to carry personal photos of pretty chicks etc. therefore your claim is null and void. The Old Fogducker wrote:...I think I should file suit against the federal govt to recover my pro-rated financial damages for making my previous licence holder obsolete when it still had some very good years left in it....

Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
Why does the new licence have room for 52 medical renewals when it is to be renewed every 5 years? Also I now have no place for company papers and certificates. So do I still need a licence folder for that?

Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
One would assume that there's space for a maximum ammount of renewals of medicals for a commercial pilot, assuming that if they get their licence and fly until retirement accounting for their renewals every six months after they turn forty. Interestingly enough though the spaces for stamps though are too small for the current stamps that the doctors have, so I assume that we'll be paying to have every one of them in the country re-issued a rubber stamp for the purpose. Why does the new licence have room for 52 medical renewals when it is to be renewed every 5 years? Of all of these wonderful details though there has been absolutely no notification to the flying public on how these things are to be implemented or inserted like your company papers or certificates, so you will have to keep your old holder for those. Even as a TC AP there has been no notification, and everything I know has been through word of mouth and repeatedly searching the TC site to see if there have been any updates on it.
For those of you who don't know, for your ATPL and CPL licence you're past the due date to apply for the new format, and your current paper licence is now void if you haven't applied yet - though TC seems pretty unconcerned with this and really have no means of enforcing that little tidbit. For those APs out there, TC has started to refuse new applications which don't include the new photo form - though they are far too busy to notify you of that, but curiously enough not too busy to send you a letter back notifying you of it.
This would be as big of a gong-show as the firearms registry if there were as many pilots in Canada as there are guns.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!

Shiny Side up.
You missed a key comment. The thing has to be replaced every 5 years. Mine expires in 2014.
Right on the first page. That means at the most only needs 10 renewal places. The rest of the pages could have been for company stamps, ppc, radio license, etc.
BB
PS The new licences have been postponed until the end of 2009.

Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
Not everyone has only one medical. Some folks might elect to hold two or three different medicals depending on the various restrictions that each one might have.
I'm not sure if that would account for the use of all of the spaces, but it would certainly lead to one requiring more than ten over the five years.

Re: Transport Canada - New Licence?
I just got mine in the mail. It took 3 weeks from the day I dropped it in the mailbox. Almost as fast as my annual $55 invoice from TC
. I'm quite surprised to be honest...

Got mine in the mail today. Submitted the application mid March with a May 1 Medical expiry.
So do I still have to carry my Radio License around??? I see no mention of it in the "Aviation Document"
