first solo

Post by Dub »

Well I did my first solo yesterday! That was a rush. Only one complaint.... Damn ultralight without a trasponder didn't radio ahead they were in the zone and joined the circuit on final for landing before even announcing himself. I didn't see him until then due to a large hill. he ended up in the middle of my 172 and the one ahead of me landing.... I'm thinking crap I don't need this.... Did an overshoot and was fine but come on whats the deal with not letting anyone know where you are until you are joining straight in for final?

RIGHT ON, DUB!!!!!!!!
congrats!!!
as for the ultralight, who knows what's going on in their head, but you did the right thing by not focusing on it and overshooting...

Congrats Dub! Welcome to the club. My first sole was one of my greatest experiences thus far.

I remember the CFI at the school I did my PPL at tell me that on his first sole the prop went flying off the plane. lol. He was in his late 70's I think and had been flying for years.... military, airlines, training, etc.

Great job that is something you will always remember. Did the school do anything for you? My school was very nice a dumped a bucket of water over me when it was 4 dagrees. They got a great pic

nah he just took some pics. Its a one instructor one AC (172) deal at YCD. He's pretty good not quite crazy enough to dump water on me, Although if some of the old timers at the flying club downstairs had caught wind of my solo there is no telling what they could have done ;)

congrats! I'm sure that won't be the last time that some one lands with making a call first. If ANYTHING ever looks wrong, overshoot. Don't be too hard on someone that screw up because someday you're going to be that guy! I know I have been that guy!

It's funny but the stuff you never see while flying with your instructor, always happens on your first couple solo flights! On my first solo I had a Katana come within 50ft of my left wing while downwind in the circuit. On my second solo I almost smacked a flock of birds in the touch & go! Both happened at Springbank CYBW.

Congratulations!! I remember that feeling and you always will too 8)
