YWG emergency?
apparently on friday there were a pile of emergency vehicles racing for the airport around noonish ywg time... anybody hear anything, or did a drunk fall down after getting off a plane?
PLANE FORCED TO LAND
Smoke in the cockpit forced a Jetsgo F100 airplane en route from Winnipeg to Toronto to turn around mid-flight and make an emergency landing Friday evening.
The aircraft landed safely at 11:10 p.m., said Kelly Langevin, after departing from Winnipeg International Airport 40 minutes earlier, spokesman for Winnipeg Airports Authority.
The smoke had dissipated by the time the plane returned to Winnipeg but the aircraft remained grounded for inspection and the 30 passengers on board had to leave the aircraft.

I agree. Ever since Christmas I have been making sure that my family and friends know that JG is definately not a service oriented or safe airline to fly with.
Seriously folks, how long before all these incidents end up with a crash??
Not that I wish that on anyone, but it really makes me nervous and there is no way in h-e-l-l I will recommend this airline to anyone.

What you're surprised that with the old aircraft, low cost operation and pilots mostly brand new, low on experience with jets, these things happen? Come on thats what happens. Experience is something that training cant give you. Just so that everybody understands I am not talking about the smoke in the a/c. But more about the other cases ie. upsets in flight exceeding Mmo, landing on the side of the runway and continuing on etc. With their expansion and, for example, a captain whose previous experience was a BE100. What can you expect. Well lets see, hard landings maybe, people who are over their head maybe?
To all the JG people, I have seen your A/C land and BOUNCE twice, three times prior to coming to a full fledged crasher on the runway. I know you want to have a firm landing, but if you guys keep this you'll be the first airline with aircraft that are lowered free of charge. Or maybe you guys land that hard, because you get paid so little, you supplement your income with the change that you shake out of your paxs pockets?

can it get any better

Nice work. Congradulations to the crew for making the correct decision to land. As for the cause we'll just have to wait and see.Pajock wrote:PLANE FORCED TO LAND

I just figured it out; my hat's off, or it would be if I wore one, to Jetsgo's management! Declare emergencies everywhere you go and get priority thereby saving time and fuel. Brilliant! The money saved skipping ahead of everybody else will more than offset the cost of hiring some clown with a BA to write stories to TC about their unfortunate, yet unrelated, mishaps. Congratulations Jetsgo!

(Sh*t never happens for high time jet drivers with new airplanes)
I am not a JetsGo supporter but if you wanna be the tree swinging crap flinger you are then go to the Jetsgo YYC incident cause that one deserves the attention.
The above causes pilot's to return for landing with smoke in the cockpit? I know what you are getting at but in this particular incident the crew just did their job. What you're surprised that with the old aircraft, low cost operation and pilots mostly brand new, low on experience with jets, these things happen?

I flew on JS a number of times about a year ago while commuting from YYZ and YVR. There were no delays, no A/C problems, the crew were great on the ground as well at the air although the F/A's were a little more concerned about looking pretty which bothered me abit. I wonder what has happened in recent months. The company is a very low cost carrier, but the flight crews are all professionly trained to handle approaches, emergencies etc. It doesn't matter if they came from B100 or B747, everyone has a bad day. I would like to meet a single pilot who did not screw up once or twice or three times in their careers. BTW, I don't work for JS.
Not sure where everyone gets the idea that all of Jetsgo's planes are old. The oldest Fokker was built in 1991, not exactly old by airplane standards, and alot newer than any 737-200 or the 727's flying around.
As for Jetsgo having all kinds of incidents, do a search for incidents in Canada and you'll see that all of canada's major airlines have had them. The biggest difference is that they don't seem to get smeared all over this forum. I've seen lots of incidents at "other" airlines get reported on here and no one seems to say much, but if a similar thing happens at Jetsgo then it must be "old airplanes, low cost carrier, and inexperienced pilots!
As I have posted before, if you are going to tell people to stay away from an airline because of some incidents than you really don't have any airlines in Canada that you can fly on.

ALL airlines have incidents like this. Smoke in cabin and they returned to departure airport - Big F#@$%in' Deal!!
Looks like they handled it fine.
Now if I were EVER to hear about a crew momentarily losing control of the aircraft 20 miles out while on vectors in IMC, busting altitudes both up and down and losing directional control, then THAT is an airline (or airliner) I would NEVER fly on!!!

There are a LOtttt of comments on this thread that I would not be surprised to find are bordering on the legal definition of defamation...from certain posters whom I know personally do NOT have the experience on ANYTHING resembling an a/c in the category of which SG operates...please, you are only displaying your own ignorance when you make categorical remarks like "JetsGo is unsafe", blah blah blah...incidents of themselves, even lots of them, do not in themselves make an airline unsafe.
If the same who get worked into a righteous dither about "telling my family not to fly JetsGo" and the like, had one friggin' iota of experience in major airline ops, well...they would never set foot on AC/WJ/Jazz again either, ever!
Not defending SG per se, just disgusted and embarassed at the overall sheep mentality and level of ignorance in a lot of comments. There have been incidents equalling or surpassing ANYTHING SG has done at every major Canadian operator at one time or another - DON'T KID YOURSELVES! IT MAKES PEOPLE SOUND LIKE THE C-185 WONDER-WANNABES THAT ARE PROBABLY POSTING THIS CRAP!
heh had the caps locked but the sentence works even better that way...
Disclaimer: I do not work for SG, nor have I ever, nor do I intend to ever. Please spare me the "oh-you-just-work-there" thing.

I second Complexintention's comments 100%.
Avcanada is a good place to discuss flying, however before making wild accusations maybe it would be wise to understand the subject first.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Smoke in plane cabin forces emergency stop
Monday, February 28, 2005 Posted: 7:56 AM EST (1256 GMT)
ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- An American Airlines plane made an emergency landing Sunday at Orlando International Airport after smoke appeared in the cabin, officials said.
No injuries were reported, and there was no fire.
"They declared the emergency as a normal precaution," said American Airlines spokesman Sonja Whitemon. "Aside from the fact there was a haze in the cabin, it was a normal landing."
The Boeing 757 was carrying 187 passengers and six crew members on a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles.
Passengers smelled smoke about 20 minutes into the flight. The plane landed in Orlando shortly after noon, said Kathleen Bergen, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman in Atlanta.
A replacement plane was brought in to take the passengers to Los Angeles, Whitemon said.

This hasn't much to do with this post, but the article about WJ landing in YXX after an engine failure just goes to show again not to believe everything you read in the paper, about ANY airline. It says that the WJ 737 had 52000 lbs of fuel on board. Unless they had fuel drums in the cabin, that's impossible!! Anyway, food for thought.

Inverter, even after god knows how many years flying the same type, I still on occasion bounce the sh*&t out of the old girl. And if you were to see me do this, you would base your whole perception of my airline on the one, (or twoI have seen your A/C land and BOUNCE twice, three times prior to coming to a full fledged crasher on the runway.
People, this is the same bashing that WJ took from AC types back in the day when they first started off. One of which I remember was a long discussion about WJ not deicing when all of YYZ was lining up at the bays. “Look how unsafe this company is. A crash is just a matter of time,” they cried.
Which leads me to another thought, and that is that WJ and its folk sound very much like AC folk of yesterday. They both have the idea that they know best, and will pounce on any and all mistakes made by any company that they perceive to be their rivals. With WJ it now seems to be Jetsgo. WJ got all of their pilots form turbo props, and would promote them within the year, back in the old days. Now these same people look down their noses at Jetsgo pilots who were promoted within the same timeframe.
Or take money. AC types used to say that WJ would lead to the demise of the professional pilot in Canada due to their low wages and poor benefits. Now WJ types charge Jetsgo types with the same type of thing (see 30K bond).
I could go on, but the fact is that WJ pilots and AC pilots have a lot of similar attitudes when it comes to pilots from other companies. And that is “I’m better than you”. And WJ…your attitude change from being that little cute company that showed up AC, to one that is just about as arrogant as AC has been noted by many outsiders not just myself.
Just a thought.
