I actually think that's an excellent point. It's the same as buying an instructor rating or a float rating. By the time you drive across the country and spend all that money on food, gas and hotels, how much would all that add up to? Then add in the lost time not working when you could have been working... why not just get a bank loan and buy a PPC? Get a letter of intent from an operator first maybe, but it's really not all that bad of an idea. It's what they do in Europe and Africa, why not here?E-Flyer wrote:Food for thought, partially the money spent doing the road trip could be enough to get you through your "purchased" type rating course for better job opportunities HAHA.
Just had to throw that out there !

Because after you do all that, you still have to pony up gas and grocery money to make a road trip to look for work.Just another canuck wrote:I actually think that's an excellent point. That's why I said this.iflyforpie wrote:Because after you do all that, you still have to pony up gas and grocery money to make a road trip to look for work.
If someone guarantees you a job if you go buy the PPC, maybe it's not such a bad idea. And no need for anyone to start a long discussion about "buying" your job... we've all seen it before.Just another canuck wrote:Get a letter of intent from an operator first maybe

Hey all.
I know some of you have been supportive of my search for a job. Im happy to report: I got a minnow trapping job in ear falls! Im excited to start my career (250TT) Reading the threads talking about minnnow trapping make it sound like a real adrenaline high all summer for sure! If anyone has any tips or tricks of the trade, Id love to hear from ya. for all you fellow lowtimers, cross your fingers and be in the right place at the right time. (too cliche, i know, i was sick of hearing that when I didnt have something lined up, but really, its true) theres still hope

Now here is some advice.
Be very careful as you learn what your airplane will do, always leave yourself lots of room for error because you will make errors as you learn.
I also started my career flying in a demanding job with the same time you have and thankfully never exceeded my limits and retired after 55 years in aviation without ever having an accident.....you can to just know your and your airplanes limits as you learn.

Re: Any low time people finding work?
Thanks Cat! A lot of guys have warned me about the dangers of the job and some have told me im crazy for doing it. With the right attitude though, I know it will be a great learning experience and give me some solid stick and rudder skills that will hone everything I've practised so far and give me much further skill in float flying than any 50hr bush course could teach.

BB, f**kin' relax dude... I've never paid, nor do I ever intend to. In fact, I turned a job down at VAL after being offered employment and chose to stay unemployed instead. I was just saying at least it's your PPC... you can call it your own. Would I do it? No.Brown Bear wrote:This is the attitude that has turned this industry into shit.Just another canuck wrote:why not just get a bank loan and buy a PPC? You're the one suggesting folks buy a PPC. Not the Brown Bear. And bully for you turning down VAL. Bet that caused them many sleepless nights.Just another canuck wrote:BB, f**kin' relax dude... Re: Any low time people finding work?
1150 TT, 900 PIC Current Group 1 Instrument, Current Class 3 Instructor Rating, Just took a job on the ramp which looks like over a year wait for a flying position. F*ck Me.
Re: Any low time people finding work?
350tt floats, expired IATRA, 1 yr past my first IFR renewal and five since my initial ride I'm still waiting for my first flying position after a number of false starts. At this point I think I've spent most of my life discouraged.
I was lucky enough for once to be the right person in the right place at the right time for my current job, a ground position for a great company. At least now I still have hope of moving up.
Got married too now which I sure can kind of hinder the flying career, but at some point I think that you've got to decide what you really want out of life. A semi-satisfying yet unreliable career or an actual life in my case. Am I right?
