Voyageur Information.....

Post by Speedbird Junior »

At the risk of getting flamed, can somebody in the know please clarify the current deal at VAL? (I have searched through other threads before you ask)

This "cash up front" gig - I am told its $15K, NON pro-rated over 12 months (so you get nothing back until month 12) Its taken out in your name by you, with VAL's assistance via their banking partner. They then hold it in a GIC and you get it back after a year with interest (presumably less than the interest charged to you by the bank?)

UN contract is 2 months in, 2 months out at your home location. CRJ or DHC7 / 8 (?)

Correct?

*No desire to start a pissing match, so straightforward info appreciated* :D

That is all correct! Another bonus: You have to pay for the training bond even if you have a valid dash-8 rating and get accepted for a dash-8 position. This from a friend who just did an interview with them after he was laid off from another company, he thought he would be spared the training bond thing.

No flaming... just more facts about good ol' VAL.

Just be aware that what they tell you and what actually happens might be 2 different things.

If they hit you with "oh by the way" they still have your money. Your choice at that time might be to do whatever they demand or eat your bond.

If you stay the 12 months you get your money plus the interest. Really shouldn't cost you anything. They pay the interest now. The bit about the already typed pilot is I believe quite true. Asked once and got a big run around??? Thats al I know.
feel free to PM me for anything else.

I think the CRJ is 1 month in, 1 month out. I'm pretty sure a guy I worked with is on that schedule with them.

The GIC was not under my name. I never received any T3 or T5 (it was more than 2 yrs ago). We called several banks and no one had any GIC under our names. We asked Voyageur where our money was, no answer from them. I received a cheque FROM VOYAGEUR after 1 yr and 3 months (late). Maybe if you need a loan you will have a GIC under your name, but not if you already have the 15K$. The good thing, I saved the tax on the tiny interest earned.

That sounds perfectly fine to me. I don't know why anyone would whine about it. It's just the type of thing I would never noticed happened..

Hummm,

Lots of appropriate time, not a bad driver, never bent an airplane, been around the world a few times, will pay the money (times are hard you know), know all of the rules, and I still get turned down?

What am I missing?

Cheers everyone

Hey guys,
I have an interview coming up this month and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of questions they ask at the interview? Feel free to pm...
I did a search and I am aware of the bond and the schedule but couldn’t find anything regarding the interview.
Thanks!

Think Twice B4 sending ur resume off to Voyageur, this is a real bad company, I emailed HR to find out what there base pay was and they played a cat and mouse game 4 over a week with me, they refuse to answer any questions.
I later had a chat with a few old coworkers who work there and they told me The Hr department will not allow us grease monkeys to even communicate with them at any level.

If you do land an interview you must travel to north bay at ur own cost then they make u stand outside in the cold until 15 mins past ur interview time, ask you foolish questions then kick out of the building, if your lucky u might get a call back in 4 weeks time, (just about when u have another job) and ask u to travel back to start ur training OH! and u must pay ur way there again.

And dont think ur going to make a good hourly rate it $21 for a M2 and $25 for ACA to work in africa WOW!!!!!!!!!! :prayer:

Would any of you even consider going to Voyageur if they had DC4s or Caribous, or maybe DC3s?

If ever a company needed a union or a giant pay raise to make this high risk operation worth a look, this POS does.

If you go on a Dash7 the only other outfits to use them are Tindi and Trans Capital.

If you go on a Dash8, maybe better choice.

If you go on an RJ, you might get a leg-up into Jazz, where you will go into a clapped out Dash8 and not get back into an RJ maybe for ever.

So the only thing that Voyageur is good for is a temporary job that you might do until the industry picks up again or you find a better outfit overseas. You risk all those diseases and health risks to have a GIC you don't own and be at the mercy of a gang of yahoos that can let you go without cause at any time and anywhere and you lose your money?

Does this really seem to be a good situation? Is the industry really that bad now?

Just before the Voyageur Apologists start to dump on me, I don't GARA about Voyageur itself, I am just trying to give those of you who think working for V. is such a good deal, try and explain why you think it is?

Who is in this gang of yahoos and do you know them? :smt040

The jet time is still jet time, that can't be bad. I can count two people I know who left an RJ for WJ. The jet time would be perfect for me cause it is a foot in for the EK end EY requirements.

If Val dropped the pay up front I wonder what would happen.....
