Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
I heard Blue 49 Heavy on Winnipeg CTR yesterday, talking about escorts and what type of formation, and then he asked if he could connect to ??? uplink.
Center responded that he was unable the ??? uplink, but would check with the next sector...
Anyone know who Blue 49 Heavy might be?
US Military maybe?

Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
It's Maple Flag right now in YOD. You probably heard an AWACS.

Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
Maple flag is May 18 to Jun 12 blue 49 would be the blue team and if it was a heavy I would assume a KC10 tanker.
Cool call sign I heard the other day was "Nightmare" wich is almost as good as "Hammer"

Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
I think Nightmare is used by B-1s of a certain unit but I could be mistaken.
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
I think Nightmare the new combined Hornet sqn in Cold Lake.
"I have control!"
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
The Nightmare call sign = some Canadian CF-18.

"Blue" is an everyday USAF Tanker callsign.
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
Nightmare is my fav. Definitely a CF-18. Sniper is pretty cool too. Gonzo is always good for a laugh (CT-142 long nose Dash
.
Worst ever....probably Empress (no offense). It's cool if it's a female pilot.

Nightmare is a f18, heard him many times on the radio and in the control zone.
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
It's THEM. It's a whole squadron (409 Sqn) that uses that callsign along with a 2 digit number after to differentiate. It's for single ship ops.pilotman15 wrote:Nightmare is a f18, heard him many times on the radio and in the control zone.

Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
I always thought 'Mustang' was cool, until I found out is was for King Airs.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
My favorites have to be Maverick and Iceman.
Wahunga!
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
The best I've heard yet was a 3 ship of B52's with the call sign "Death".
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
F15's from Eglin that used to deploy to Europe every couple of years had the callsign "macho". That caused an awful lot of laughter from every other NATO fighter pilot in theatre. Nightmare is almost as bad. It's too bad the Canadians seem to be going the way of the Americans.

I like the call signs for USAF initial training.
Aircraft with instructor aboard = c/s Tiger
Aircraft without Instructor aboard = c/s Kitty
It must be awfully demoralizing for the wannabe "bringers of Death" to have to call themselves "Kitty"

Flying along the east coast of Florida years ago heard the callsign "Gunfighter 23". Pretty Clear what he does for a living!
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
On the wet coast "Demon' and 'Snake" come up pretty often.

Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
When I was in flight training in Portage la Prairie on the musketeer we used "Bengal###" for dual and "Tiger###" for solo. Anyone know what they use nowadays in training?
Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?
Re: Blue 49 Heavy callsign...
Since the retirement of the PFS Tigers - the 3CFFTS callsigns are as follows:GilletteNorth wrote:When I was in flight training in Portage la Prairie on the musketeer we used "Bengal###" for dual and "Tiger###" for solo. Anyone know what they use nowadays in training?

Gannet - solo PFT (Grob 120A)
Prophet - test PFT (Grob 120A)
Kestrel - solo BFT (Grob 120A)
Mustang - multi-engine (BE9L)
Ranger - dual helo (Bell 206)

Don't laugh. "Iceman" at the YWG de-ice pad (who was a woman that day) called us Maverick by mistake on the deice freq. I think she meant to call someone else on a different radio, ie the sucker truck or something. We giggled on the radio after that one.Spokes wrote:My favorites have to be Maverick and Iceman.
