A380 YYZ ops
As most of you probably know, Emirates is upgrading their services to YYZ from a Boeing 777-300 to an Airbus A380 starting tomorrow, June 1st. The service will operate every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving in YYZ at 15:45 and departing for DXB at 21:40.
My question for those in the know is whether or not the A380 is limited to certain runways. Thanks in advance, and perhaps see some of you at YYZ tomorrow!

Re: A380 YYZ ops
My understanding (read elsewhere) that it can't use 6R/24L because it can't hold short 6L/24R without blocking the runway.
I think everything is OK for it. Also 23/05 is back open again, I saw the NOTAM was gone (correct me if I'm wrong)

Re: A380 YYZ ops
05/23 makes sense, as does 15L/33R, but I was hoping the other runways would be off limits. Too bad the old T1 isn't still around

Runway not a problem. Customs is. Crew line is not fun behind this gang.

As long as they're in T1, all is goodtonysoprano wrote:Runway not a problem. Customs is. Crew line is not fun behind this gang.

What a POS that ugly, overweight thing is. The only reason it's even going to YYZ is because EK can only get three slots/week into Pearson and the 777 is always full.
Hey, crew line behind them can be fun! Have you SEEN our cabin crew? It's like Baskin Robbins except with a lot more than 32 flavours!

I've seen the ice cream . Sure, there's lots. That's it. Nothing special. Actually arrogant to be truthful. They tried to bud-in in FCO. They are not the Virgin girls. Nothing more than an inconvenience. sorry bro. Teach them that stripes mean something, from other airlines too.

Ain't that the truth. The customs hall will be a mess. I very rarely see more than two customs agents collecting cards on the way out of the baggage hall. Sometimes the line goes back and around several carousels. Hope they put on more staff because they only ever had two working in the old T1, so really, T new is no more efficient.
Standby for new atis message

Re: A380 YYZ ops
Yeah its Flight EK241 from Dubai arriving at 15:45 local
Someone was telling me that the A380 needs 11,000ft of runway so I guess it will either be 05/23 or 15L/33R

Well the big bugger landed on 06L. I had just commuted in and was heading for my car when I saw all the throngs of plane spotters on the roof of the T2 parking garage. I had my back to the bird and one lady yelled down to me, "You're missing it!!". lol...I was more concerned about missing rush hour and getting to the crash pad in a timely manner, so I didn't watch it taxi in. I'll be honest, to me it's just a big, ugly Airbus. The 747 will always be my favourite big bird.

Locally-trained pilot
Burlington pilot has jumbo homecoming
June 01, 2009
Chris Sorensen
Bruce Campion-Smith
History was made at Toronto Pearson this afternoon when the largest passenger aircraft ever built – a double-decker Airbus A380, capable of carrying 486 passengers – arrived on its first flight to Canada from Dubai.
And the pilot who landed the Emirates Airline monster just before 4 o’clock is from just down the road in Burlington.
Traffic along the 401 westbound slowed to a crawl approaching Dixie Rd. as the huge jet lumbered down from the western skies.
On a recent trans-Atlantic flight, Capt. David Heino of Burlington was high above the inky-blue ocean when he realized just how fortunate he was to be flying the world’s biggest commercial airliner.
