I just got accepted into Sault college and I am trying to do some research about it before i decide were i want to go. The website i useless they don't give any information at all on it. What do you get out of the program hour / ratings? It says that it is 7 semesters long so I am assuming you have to do something over the summer, Do you get both summers off or one. What do you think I would end up spending once its over including residence.

Roughly 200 hrs. CPL/Multi/Group 1 IFR

Correct, 7 semesters. You are there throughout the first summer. (ie semester 3 is during the summer, flying only), so you will need to budget for that. The second summer you have from end of April until Sept off.

The best advice I can give is take a drive up there (if you are within 10 hrs or so), talk to people, check out the equipment and faculty. Make sure it is a place you want to go. Do the same for any other schools you were accepted to.

I went through the Sault 02-05. Had a great time, and enjoyed almost all of it. Others that were there didn't. You've got to make up your own mind.

You mean you have applied to and been accepted to a college program that you don't even know what you get at the end of it all let alone what's required of you while you are there.

well long story short CLguy I was told by sault and confederation because I didnt take the required courses first semester (grage 12 math and english) that it would be very very unlikely that I would get a spot In that program. In fact when I phoned them 2 weeks ago i was on the bottom 1/4 of the wait list so I don't know what happened there. I was planning on going to centennial and just used the rest of the colleges to fill in the 5 spots on the application no sense leaving them blank. To my surprise sault accepted me which is why I have not looked into the college.

why not do your training privately? you save alot of time and alot of needless hassle. as opposed to spending 3 years in college when you can spend one year doing your licensing and the next two gaining experience in the industry.

Good luck doing the entire commercial multi-ifr in one year and being able to afford it. Why not go to a program where you can fly sweet planes for free.

i was planning on doing the 1 year program at centennial/durham flight center but its close to 50,000$. I just figured sault is 20000$ plus you get a diplomia and possible a degree out of it, which can help get me my first job or later down the road. Even when you factor in living expenses because I will be moving from Toronto its still cheaper than centennial. I am going up Tuesday for a tour of the college the lady said she is going to try to get someone to show me the hanger but cant guarantee it which kinda sucks thats what i really want to see.

Is there a company that has flights up there for a reasonable price I know jazz does but its 500$ so looks like i will be divining.

Although, it's hard to find a job right now, especially for fresh CPLs. It may be wise to wait out the economic storm in a college or university.

that is my plan just by reading on here alot of people are saying to stay in school for the next few years till the industry gets back on its feet. plus i dont have this kind of money sitting in the bank so i will need to get a loan for it. because sault is a college program i can get a osap loan (no interest till you graduate) but with centennial since its done privately though dfc i cant.

im reading in this info sheet that sault sent me and it says if a stay an extra year ( so for 4 years) you can get a degree out of this program, Is it worth the extra year? How beneficial will a degree be over a diploma for getting jobs or is it mostly based on hours.

Well Supercharged I don't really get your point!! To me a good shopper is someone who asks what they are applying for, what the requirements are and what they will get at the end of it before they actually apply.

OSAP doesn't pay for shit all, it's an interest free loan. You hafta pay it back or pay interest after 6 months.

There are a few people who do the degree thing. If you wanna go into management, then it would be a good idea. Not for me though.

Well im in a hotel near sault college and just checked out the hanger its very nice and the planes look like brand new. Going to check out the college and go on a tour tomorrow anything you guys up here recommend that i check out while im up here.

Definately hit up the dime (studio 10). Tim, the outback isn't what it used to be, no more wing and pitcher nights. Other than that, not a whole lot to do in the Sault

I don't even bother with the Outback anymore. Maddisons is decent if you want an adventure.
The planes may seem new, but they're nearing the end of their airframe life...which means new airplanes!

right now moravan says their airframe life is something like 11000 hours as they havent been flown past that before..but they said the same thing for 10000 hours and there already is one zlin past that and a few more should be there within a year, so assuming that moravan keeps giving the ok to extend the airframe life i would assume that the college would keep going with the plane. I think there will be some fleet renewal though in the extreme near future. Word on the street is the college purchased or is purchasing a couple new planes.....not sure what or when they are getting them, it's just what I hear.

Well the college seems like a very nice place and I liked everything i saw so I guess i will be moving up there for september. Anybody from the toronto area moving up there for this course in september? The lady that gave me a tour did say they will be getting new planes some time by the end of the next year. She also told me that the top 2 students get a interview with Air Canada. Is this true and do any of them ever get a job with them or an agrement that after you get your ATPL or somthing or is it just an interview thats it lol.
