Maintenance Hiring
Hey whats going on with West Jet posting for Maintenance jobs in YYC and YEG? Are they looking for internal or external people? I heard that they were just looking for internal people when they did the first posting, but now its up again so I just wanted to know if anyone had a idea of what they are looking for? Other than what they have posted for: 737 NG endorsed AME's, I hate to point it out but West Jet already has the majority in Canada, so if they want more they are going to have to make more.

Re: Maintenance Hiring
Well I would say the YYC position will go internal but there is a high turn over rate in YEG and I think they would take someone without the NG endorsement in YEG as long as you have some larger jet experience/endorsements (320, 727, 737classic, 757, 767, etc...) WestJet have good policy on training and you will more than likely get a NG endorsement before your 1st year anniversary hire date.
WestJet YEG I hear is a good place to work except for the fact the cost of living is so bloody high there and guys leave for higher paying jobs outside aviation. But if your looking for experience on the 737NG WestJet is the best place to go...top notch training dept., great technical resources, tooling, manufacturer support, etc...
The toughest sell for Tech-Ops is the very average starting pay which is a hard pill for experience guys to swallow...taking almost 7 years to get to 70k, and starting at 51k.

Re: Maintenance Hiring
7 years to get 70k? well that depends on how quickly you get your aca, some guys get hired and 6 months later have there aca and that puts them around 60k to start, no extra's included, which is not to bad. Its is to bad they do not recognize experience for engineers, everyone comes in level 1.
As for the AME postings, yyc will likely be filled internally , probably from yeg so that will just likely leave open another position there. NG endorsement probably wouldn't be required. But it does seem like YEG is starting to be the front porch to the Westjet maintenance department.

Re: Maintenance Hiring
The only reason I said 7 yrs to 70K cause that was the ACA payscale when I was there (start $59900 end $71000)...has that changed?....it is not the ACA coin that is that bad, it is the non-cert pay scale that alot of experienced guys have a problem with, hard to take a 20k pay cut ...even if it will be only for .5-1 year till you get to the ACA scale.

Re: Maintenance Hiring
Its kinda a pain to be a YYC guy to move up to YEG just to wait to come back home. Well I don't have any Boeing experiance just Bombardier stuff (never would have guessed hey). Well I'll see what happens, but I think moving is in our future.
