Nakina Air
Just seen the ad for an otter pilot. Seems they were just advertising not too long ago for the same position. Anybody know what's going on there?
Friend of mine flew there for a while before leaving to the Bear. It was hard work but good time builder. Pay wasn't bad but expect to earn it. Nakina is in the bush so don't go there wondering what happened to Walmart.
I sure somebody will slam them as per the norm. My friend did not have any major complaints other then the usual stuff.

Rectum, damn near killed 'em
nakina
i know a guy that's there. he's moving on to bigger and better things. lack of any kind of schedule (consistant and/or non existant days off, long hours etc.) if you want hours and experience, it's the place to be. 2 otters given'er shit on both floats and wheel/skis. if you want a life,, and don't like pressure, go elsewhere. like a previous poster said, its nakina. there aint no wal-marts and many people don't get out of nakina and it shows.
p.s. the doctors are all quitting and leaving geraldton. if you want/need medical attention, it's a loong drive...

To set the record straight the following is what Nakina offers its Turbo Otter Drivers for time off.
2 Weeks off during breakup - First 2 weeks of May
2 Prescheduled weeks off between May 15 and October 31
Month of November off
10 days off for Christmas/New Years
1 day off in 7 days
Plus additional days as available or required
This works out to approximately 110 days off a year
I believe this is comparable to the schedule of other float/ski operators, if not let me know.
What do others offer?

it seems to me as though dhc2/3 may have a chip on his shoulder. I used to work there years ago, and they are pretty straight shooters. A friend of mine works there currently, and from what he has said it ain't that bad 20 days on and 10 days off at least for the land guys. It was also said that the guy that is leaving has a lot of other issues, non-aviation related...
I dont know much about their operation but I do know there is a couple cute blonds that work at the northern store "They look like sisters". If stayng there for the long term, If I remember correct there is a convience store down the street that is about 5ftx5ft and it has more stock. There is one restaurant in town called Bridgette's Pizza, its pretty shitty! I wouldn't go eat their again if someone paid me. Nakina Air has great looking aircraft, it looks to be like a great place to work. Neat aircraft, all turbine and very nice people. If I was looking I wouldnt pass up the opportunity.
Well the guy that is leaving is leaving for better.
He is getting a twotter Captain seat and approx 15-20g raise over what he is makin now. He would have stayed but there wasn't much out look for the one of the IFR machines becoming available any time soon.
Good luck man and enjoy.....

A couple of posts say the hours are long and schedules erratic.
Boo hoo!
People in these forums complain about no jobs, lousy pay, etc. but guess what - you chose to work in this industry, and along with that goes hard work!
If you don't want to put in a hard day's work, too bad - Nakina sounds like a place where all you have to do is work hard when there, and then enjoy your time off (which there appears to be a reasonable amount).

dock hand
For the jobs on the dock, 2 spots are advertised under Jobs post. I was wondering...
If a 300 hour wonder had a basic float rating, and was to be hired, what could he actually expect? Some flying time? training? winter work????
Any insight with truth to it would be great.
Thanks

Beacon Final,
Hi. I've been working in Nakina for a little over four years now and promise to tell you the truth.
The way it has worked in the past is the dock hands have been kept on at the airport over the winter and take their place in line with the rest of the guys/girls. Things change though, so I doubt you would get a guarantee on this. But would you have a guarantee anywhere???
As far as the flying goes, normally guys start out flying right seat in the Caravan as the need arises (ie. MNR work, weird loads etc.) then progress to flying full time in either the right seat PC12 or Twin Otter (or both). Then if you stick around, to Caravan captain, then PC12 and Twin Otter.
Also I should add that Fridays, attendance at either Ted's and my place or the Legion is MANDATORY.
