Nav Canada Internet Flight Planning

Post by bluesideup »

Has any one here been filing on line with Nav Canada? What do you think of it, is it worth the hassle to apply. It just seems to me that haveing to send in a copy of my licence and fill out the forms is alot more hassle than just picking up the phone to file.

I really like it, it does take a few minutes to put the package together but once its in I think its pretty handy. Espcially when I have sat on hold so much with the FIC.

You have to set up a template sort of. I had one for each plane I flew.

Once you've got that, it's great.

Finally flight planning without having to talk to anyone! I like it. You can even print out your flight plan and take it with you. This is the closest you can get to having a dispatcher without actually having one.

Is there any cost to it? I looked at the application form and it asks for a NavCanada billing number.

It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.

The hassle was worth it. Filing online is fast, free, and pretty reliable. My main cow with the system is how little validation it includes with respect to routing and some other data fields. Partially correct flight plans can get corrected by ATC/FSS later, or in some cases quietly dropped.
