CYUL/CYMX

Post by Driving Comet »

I'm flying out of CYRO (Rockcliffe) for the summer and would love to take advantage of it as much as I can before I return to CYKZ (Buttonville). I wanted to fly to either Mirabel, or Trudeau (Dorval - whatever makes your prop turns).

Yes, it's a C172 - it's going to be an amazing experience. I will not be going during peak times, and will have 2 other PPL pilots with me along for the ride.

There's between a $60-120 ramp fee at YUL, and a $40 ramp for YMX. I was told that they waive it if I purchase 200 litres of fuel, I further explained to them if they can fit it in the tank, I will purchase it. YUL landing fee is $35ish, YMX is $15ish. Money isn't a factor though, as I think this will be an awesome experience, and something that will definitely help me fly in the 'real world' (large, unfamiliar airports at night).

Any tips/advice? FBO's, places to have dinner before we fly back? Shell Aerocentre is the cheapest at YUL, with a $60 ramp fee - Skyservice being the $120.

I'd do YUL. Aside from the cargo ops, YMX is deserted, and there's nothing around.

Yeah, I agree - it's just expensive.

What's new with the PFG/CFL fleet?

G'Day

Just a suggestion, if you're looking to fly to montreal and want to cut down the expenses a tad, try St. Hubert - CYHU, last time I was there, there was no ramp fee whatsoever. It's just a short drive from downtown montreal, possibly shorter than to the other international airports. Take a peek into the CFS and give them a call for more info.

Fly Safe!

skyservice fbo @ cyul is good. If you buy fuel / go at night / bring a cute girl and call in advance, you can probably save the fees. A good option to if you want, continue to cyqb. about 1 more hour farther than mtl. no landing fee, and you can get a 5 min cab ride to some good restaurant. Give a call to petro air service fbo there.

definitely don't bother with Mirabel! You'll spend twice the difference in ramp and landing fees trying to get to montreal from there. CYHU st.hubert isn't a bed idea, you won't spend much if anythinf on ramp or landing fees and it still has the big airport feel with three runways, no quite like cyul I guess but still a good option. If you're set on either cyul or cymx though definitely go with cyul.

food luck

You can try Cargair/max aviation, everyone is pretty cool there, I do my training with them but out of Mascouche. I'm not sure what the scoop is for ramp fees but I'm sure if you purchase fuel it will be waived. Call them first (450) 656-1710.
