The strangest thing you have ever seen in the sky.......

Post by CSk3RampBOY »

Last month, I was flying night with a student from CYCC enroute towards CSE4 at 3,000ft. While enroute over Alexandria, there was a streak of light falling towards the ground at an incredible speed. The light was approximately 1000ft away from my right wing and then disappeared fast. I had no clue what it was or where it came from? Both my student and I saw it.
Maybe a bullet rushing back down fired from a handgun???? UFO????

Opinions?? Anybody else have a stories to share??

Unlikely to be a bullet. With the exception of tracer and WP rounds, you can't see a bullet. Even a tracer round, if shot straight up, would be well burnt-out by the time it was coming down. My experience is only with Nato 7.62 tracers, which burn long enough to cover about a kilometer on a horizontal arc, but I'm pretty sure most tracers would have a similar burn time.

Must have been a UFO: on a mission to recover MJ's body so they can lay him to rest on the homeworld.

I'll second or third the meteor, and very easy for you to grossly underestimate the distance of it.

We also saw one in flight last month at night while we were looking at a flashy towering and isolated thunderstorm near the equator.
Amazing sight, it went clearly in front of the massive CB, lighting the side of the clouds in its particular way just to extinguish itself anywhere between 10000' or 30000'

Not having the CB who was maybe 40 to 50NM away as a visual reference I would have though it way much closer.

I saw one come down in front of us on the highway one night. It was in front of the nearby hills, so not very far. We briefly contemplated looking for a meteorite, but it was -30C outside and pitch black after a hard day of sledding.

We were north of Mirabel VOR one night eastbound at 370 with the Hawker and had a meteor bright enough to light up the cockpit. Two other aircraft in the same area saw it, a LH and a BA flight heading across the Atlantic. They both reported the same thing, it was bright enough it lit up the cockpit. The strangest thing I ever saw was a bunch of toy balloons. We had just reached 10,000 feet one day on descent into Boston when we went by a big bunch of pink toy balloons. We reported it to the controller who said "Say what???" There was a USAir DC-9 behind us who said "He ain't drunk, we got 'em too." :D

Saw a very nice meteor light up my cockpit one night out of Edmonton a few years ago. It looked way better than the recent meteor in that area reported on the news and caught on video.

The best I've been a party to was another pilot in the plane gazing at the constellations trying to figure out which one he was looking at when two of the "stars" in the formation darted away at ludicrous speed.

Flying along in the 200 close to Lac Brocket in MB, had all the lights turned down so we could see the northern lights I decided to push my forehead against the glass and I saw a meteor, looked like it was only a few feet of the wings, really it was probably 100's of miles away, but it screamed passed us and looked like it fissiled out below us... Super neat, made the old ticker race, never seen anything like it since...

I think that if you stick to the dotted lines when making the folds your might have some aviation success.

green fireballsThat scooted under the line formation at night and then went vertical and "poofed"..hate when they do that

and two UFO's at least the size ofthe skydome, parked in a field outside sioux lookout at midnight ( they scared the crap out of the crew that night as i remember)

a mexican condor at incredibly high altitude that nearly hit our jet, had to take evasive action ( they got a mean look in their eye those birds)

I believe the correct term is meteorite. Sounds more like a Klingon phaser. Did you see Spock nearby?

Only a meteorite if it survives to impact the Earth.

Once saw a satellite falling out of orbit when flying YYC - YVR. We were about 20,000' over YLW. It was a big bright fire ball with a fiery streaking tail. It actually made the news. I don't think too many people will have witnessed it, so it makes me feel kind of special inside.

I'm not sure about that?? It was really close to us and had a thin streak. Also, the flash wasn't on the horizon. I seemd as if it was around 1,00ft away from us. Almost like a flare?

One He.. of a huge kite on departure out of Narita many years ago..although this was not unusual since the farmers there were the culprits. They were upset in the building of another runway...
