The nice thing is, the salary is based more on the equipment flown than the amount flown, I fly 4-5 days a month and make another 2 or so trips to the airplane for restocking, detailing, FMS updates etc, and get paid probably on the high side of CL30 FO pay. We have wonderful owners, trips are usually out and back, with occassional weekends away(in tropical locales...ok not always...) and once a year an international trip.

All that being said, I would still trade that for a schedule, time off when I need it, and the travel benefits. Only problem is the mortgage still needs to be paid and I wouldn't be able to live on airline pay until about year 6...guess one has to take the good with the bad.

Getting into a job like this is just a matter of taking every opportunity(steam gauges, props, cargo, instruction...), networking with those you work with(never know when a student or fellow instructor/fellow freight dog lands that G550 job), and making the best of every day flying.

Am I alone then in feeling that I have NO desire to fly for the "big boyz"?? I know a former F-18 instructor at Cold Lake now flying 747's for Cathay. He says "please kill me I'm so bored!". My ultimate career aspirations as a pilot are for a local carrier, small charter or corporate. Do ANY employers place any weight on prospective new-hires that are NOT just there to build that first 1000 hrs and then looking to jump ship?!?

I'm a BC boy all my life, and looking to stay that way. Like many of you, Comm/M-Ifr but low-time. Frustrated by not able to crack into first job, but sympathize with employers who face high turnover as soon as they train somebody well!

Thought being 35, not 20, and having a Science degree and Peace Officer status would speak to my maturity, professionalism, trustworthyness, etc as far as committment to an employer, rather than hopping my way 'up' from plane to plane and gig to gig. Looking for a long-term deal around here, but hard to find...

Is everyone trying to ditch their employers at first opportunity to get into wide-bodies? Shame...

'Greg.

Maybe when 706 is re-written!
