Don't know who, but think it was coming from YYJ.

METRO VANCOUVER — A small plane has crashed into a building near the Knight Street Bridge in Richmond, according to reports.
The aircraft was on approach to YVR when it crashed near the Richmond Auto Mall.
The plane, a Navajo, can carry up to eight passengers according to YVR spokeswoman Alana Lawrence.

Callsign is Apex 511. Sounds like tower lost contact with them a couple miles short of the runway.
Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
Witnesses are saying it went nose first into the ground, immediately followed by a 100' + high tower of smoke and fire. News is saying 2 onboard, dead.
RIP to the crew and condolences to the families. Hope that the cause is determined and that it'll never happen again.

At least two people have died in a Richmond plane crash.
According to emergency services the pair were deceased when firefighters arrived at the scene on the 12500-block of Vickers Way.
Bill Yearwood, of the Safety Transportation Board, has told The Province the light twin-engine plane - a PA-31 Navajo - crashed near the Ikea store.
He said the plane has space for eight passengers.
Vancouver airport flight control staff lost contact with the plane just before the 10:15 p.m. crash.
Firefighters are on the scene.
Bridgeport Road is closed between No. 5 Road and Knight Street

Witnesses report the aircraft was in a steep right turn then nosed sharply into the ground at high speed. News report says 2 on board. Not o.k. Clear weather at the time.
Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
Watching CTV their aviation expert (Mark Miller) has been looking at radar tracks, and says the Navaho was not far behind an Airbus.

Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
So sorry to hear the bad news. Sounds like the tower told them to plan a 4 mile final.

Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
I think "Apex" is Canadian Air Charters. Pretty sure "Luna" is Orca's.

Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
Yeah, was gonna say, Orca uses Luna for their callsign. Never really heard Apex before..
A good thing that they missed Ikea, that could have been uglier, though I suppose it would have been closed by 10?
Either way, RIP

Occurrence Date: 2009/07/08
Occurrence Time: 1346 Z
Orca Airways Flight LZ350, a Piper PA31 IFR Vancouver to Nanaimo, departed Runway 08R and after departure informed the Tower that they needed to return for landing - no equipment required. LZ350 landed safely at 1348Z. On clearing the runway, they reported a possible fluid leak. The runway was closed for an inspection, and Runway 08L was opened early to accommodate arrivals. Runway 08R re-opened at 1400Z.
