Get a Coleman from Walmart! It will set you back a whopping $24.95, is good to 50 meters underwater, has big bright numbers, alarm, 2 timezone setting etc. and has a built in mag light. You also have a choice of nylon or metal strap!

I have had my Tissot for 32 years and it just keeps on ticking. Wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Anyone else have a tough time with the Tissot T-Touch? The touch feature has gone for a crap twice now and I have to send it away again.

Re: Best watch?
I got my ADI watch that my Grandfather gave me.
Very similar to these but mine has the metal band.

I do want to pick up a citizen skyhawk though. It would be nice to have another flight computer.

I personally dont wear a watch. My last 2 watches came were Timex from Walmart and cost under $50.

I've got a Casio Wave Ceptor ( http://waveceptor.casio.com/watches/mens/ ) Although the exact model isn't on there anymore.
Has the analog (two hands) and the digital display on the bottom... can show local time or a time zone of your choosing (I keep GMT on there) Also comes with timers and all that jazz as well. Automatically updates the exact time with the atomic clock signal overnight, had it for a few years and battery hasn't run out yet.
Set me back about $70 I think... well worth the price. Don't buy something really expensive until you can't stand the one you've got... much easier to upgrade later than regret spending a couple grand on a timepiece...

1. It will tell you the time just as well as the others.
2. The numbers are nice and big..not little slivers or dots
3. You push a button and it lights up at night..neat for the cockpit or wherever.
Of course it wont identify you as a pilot or someone who has to try and compensate with a watch, but, considering some of the responses here, do you want to be identified as a pilot?
oh...and they cost about $30.00
Another one is the Coleman Nightsight. Around $30 also. I like the light more on this one as it stays lit for a few seconds after being pressed. Great if your hands are full.
I assumed the big watch was just to make up for flying small equipment. The idea anyone needs it because they can't do simple addition/subtraction to tell what time it is in another zone is a bit worrying.

Re: Best watch?
If you are starting out and going North, get something cheap with a leather or fabric band. I always find the metal bands catch on crap and pop open, and the thing will get beat to sh*t anyway. Plus metal can be uncomfortable on skin in the cold.
But whatever...I'm kinda embarrassed I posted...slow day...

Never wear a metal (watch) wrist band - they can short
out electrical connections, which is quite painful.
In the process, an odour is created which is not entirely
unlike that of frying pork. Permanent marks can be left
on the wrist.

Automatic or quartz watch in the cockpit?
Well my old citizen is in need of some repair, though it still keeps good time...well up until I was up in the air and banda bing the battery ran out NO WATCH.
Well I figured to myself instead of getting a new battery I might just get a 25 jewel automatic chronograph and never have to be in the dead battery situation again,
What is the consensus, a quartz or a automatic?

Citizen has a large line of solar-powered watches too. I have two of them, and I love them. And like you want, you never have to worry about battery life.

Breitling

For sure Breitlings are expensive, however you can get one for nothing all you have to do is fly for them.
They gave me an automatic, so no battery issues.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Automatic or quartz watch in the cockpit?
You can always tell the noob pilots with the really expensive watch that tells them the time in Tokyo and Madrid all for rocking a 206 around the north. This always leads to them smashing it on a drum or dropping it in a lake. Its the same story with sunglasses, my advice would be to get a 25 dollar watch and never worry about such things and save a ton of money.
Re: Automatic or quartz watch in the cockpit?
Take a look at the Casio G-Shock Solar Atomic watches. Two models are GW5600J-1V or GW330A-9V

Re: Automatic or quartz watch in the cockpit?
No doubt. I have had a $40 Timex analog watch for over 10 years. Replaced the battery once, replaced the band once. damn good value. I've flown old small airplanes, to latest model corporate jets....the fancy watches are just bling IMHO. Timex takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' as they say. And i don't really ever care if I lose it.. wrote:You can always tell the noob pilots with the really expensive watch that tells them the time in Tokyo and Madrid all for rocking a 206 around the north. Re: Automatic or quartz watch in the cockpit?
No need to have Madrid time zone, but UTC and local is convenient.
