That's mighty predictably arrogant. Tell me that when you're 60 bro.

It's been quiet lately.
Good to see that things are getting scrappy again!
Standing by for another rebuttal from roger.roger.

The ACPA already has a copy of our new agreement.
Here's hoping AC can stay out of CCAA.

guys,
We gotta make money first, then we can raise the bar. In the mean time, it's up to you guys. Don't worry, someday we'll thank you. Hopefully.

You're not going to believe this but many at AC, including some illustrious pilots, believe that CCAA is the way to go. I think I need to find another career. Here's hoping AC can stay out of CCAA.

I like choices (translation he likes different varietal)tonysoprano wrote:Thanks Huge. I certainly would meet those requirements, believe it or not. But, been there, done that. I might suggest it to my son though. I would consider it but I have a weakness: I like choices. I'm more of a see-the-world kind a guy. Boredom kills me. Twenty years of N. America and the Caribbean was pushing me to go flip burgers at the fast food joints. I'm glad you achieved your goal in life. I did too.

That's a matter of opinion. They told us several years ago they were planning ahead and getting the management structure in place for 2013. Makes sense to me since there's 42 or so airplanes coming from now til then.

Last week, (IATA), trade group for the world's major carriers, reversed an earlier prediction that the latest plunge in demand had bottomed out. Reacting to a further 9.2 per cent drop in May traffic, IATA now forecasts total industry losses of $9 billion (U.S.) this year on a likely 15 per cent decline in revenues.
A long-time CEO in the Airline biz, once complained "We have no choice but to match whatever low fare anybody puts out there. And so it will get as bad as they want it to get."
He went on to say,Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be airline bosses ."

Re: Hiring Freeze at WJA?
Not quite, but whatever. It'd be pretty impressive to have a 30-40% cost advantage over your competitors if that were the case.A-380 wrote:WJ is top heavy with vps, to vps of vps, right down to managers for managers. heard about the op out and eary retirement offer, offered on a daily email program to westjetters.
While there has been some proactive growth to support the strategic plan, the corporate structure is actually quite streamlined.
In most departments, the frontline agent is 6 or less steps from the president, which is considered to be a pretty optimal.
**Agent (CSA, FA, Pilot, SSA)
1) Team Leader (only in some departments)
2) Manager
3) Director
4) Vice President
5) Executive Vice President
6) President
Relative to many other carriers, you don't see a ton of layers at the executive positions (ie. Senior Directors, Senior Vice Presidents, Senior Executive Vice Presidents, etc...).
Now some might think the structure may have too many people within those leadership roles, but it depends on what your corporate objective is.
At AC, as a CSM I was responsible for the performance management of approximately 180 employees. What that meant was that I was only supposed to manage the worst of the worst employees, spend no time with the high performers and pencil whip annual performance reviews where the only thing different on it was the name (assuming you were ever able to get to doing the review).
At WJ, the primary responsibility of roles like Team leader, Manager and Director is to support approximately 20-25 people with ongoing goals and objectives, provide daily support to achieve those goals and objectives, provide frequent one on ones to facilitate continuous feedback as well as manage performance.
That does take more people to administer, but the benefits have proven themselves over the last 13 years when WJ is continually noted as having the best corporate culture in Canada (which has played a key role in the success of the company over the last 13 years).
I'd also like to know about the daily e-mail program as well. Never seen it. Just the Friday "What's New".

Hey guys,
is WJ having a GS in September or did it get postponed?

I think that's fairly accurate although I do think some departments have been operating a little fat around the edges.mikeecho wrote:Not quite, but whatever.
