Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
Ok, I'm not going up there to fly. Instead, I was entertaining the idea of buying a small fishing cabin on a nearby lake.
So with that in mind, does anyone have any info on the town? Fishing on nearby lakes? Oh and air travel up there. Perimeter? others?
thanks.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
Incredible fishing up there. Town is slightly sketchy, but not too bad and I have seen far worse. You've got a Northern store and a few greasy spoon restaurants. Real-estate is crazy cheap. Air travel is pretty good with Perimeter, Bearskin, Calm Air and others. All in all, not a bad place for a summer cabin.
Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
As of right now, only Perimeter has a sked into Lynn Lake. Bit of a ghost town but as said above cheap real estate, northern store, couple restaurants, LC, and really good fishing. Depending where your coming from, keeping a vehicle in Thompson and making the drive from here would probably your best option.
Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
How are the sked flights up there in the summer? Busy?
I think I have an interline with perimeter but am not positive.
jj
edit to add: Hmm, doesn't look like we have an agreement with perimeter after all. So perimeter is the only one into lynn lake?

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
No one answers the phone after hours for fuel.
Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
As of a couple years ago Bearskin and Calm Air did summer charters into Lynn, no sched flights. Perimeter is the only sched. A guy named Kirk handles fuel and airport maintenance, he's been there since time began.
If you're driving around town be careful of pedestrians, its like watching zombies moving through... groups in the middle of the road. Don't run over the wheelchair lady.
Driving from at least Thompson would be the best option. Make sure you have a good spare tire.
No taxi service
Beer choices are limited but at least they have Keiths now.

That doesn't look like a Lynn property at all, the chain link fence is waaay too fancy. Otherwise it looks just about right

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
The cabin would be in the provincial park. Is it really that bad up there? Also, is there great fishing within driving distance?

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
The Cappy and myself flew a twin otter down the main drag at "low level" as per request of the RCMP for Canada Day once.. along with a beaver and an otter. A regular DeHavilland air-show! Wow were the 14 people in town ever impressed!
Also went to the legion for the "Jigging" contest but left before the "beer chug" competition.
also saw a local kid eating grasshoppers out of a chip bag.
you know ... same old small town stuff

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
you guys are close but my bread is not grey "yet" and there is no fences around the houses because the summer students have them all cleaned up every year.
i remember the fly by on main street because i had 2 semis as floats in the parade because my winter freighting sleighs don't slide very good without snow, LOL.
i deal with lots of people on the internet on coming up here fishing. i tell them the so-called road will do damage to your boat and vehicle. the gas prices are high, the food prices are high and the beer is the same price as downtown winnipeg. come up here and enjoy but don't leave your vehicle unlocked because your things will go walking, LOL.
also there are no grasshoppers up here so those kids were eat fancy imported food, must be nice. in the KINGDOM i have labbatts blue (lite beer is training beer) in a bottles because i went from the breast to the bottle not the can and hickory stick chips as a saturday night treat, LOL. also since the vendor does not have really cold beer, i'm one case a head in my beer fridge so i always have cold beer for when friends drop by on sunday since they forgot to get a case. (the vendor is closed sundays and monday nights plus they have keith's beer now)

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
i don't think there is a gas war here in lynn lake, the esso is $1.10 a litre and you might get a free coffee too. the carlock thing is $1.05 and no free coffee.
raining here for the 4 day so lots of puddles on the street to splash the people walking.
also the bugs are bad this year, kill one and a thousand show up at the funeral, LOL.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
due to my "woman troubles" (yes my dad told me if it has tracks, tires or tits you are going to have problems, LOL) my ilford collection had to stay put until things were offically over on the advise of my lawyer who has those great ads on TV after midnight, LOL.
i'm dealing with a movie producer in vancouver and we might do a little filming in ilford because of the history of the cat trains there.
life is too short to worry about these things, next you are there, get some pictures.

also the so-called road to lynn lake has claimed the greyhound bus and the fuel truck all in one day. as long as it is not the beer truck were are in good shape. the towing outfit in thompson will be busy for the next couple of days hauling everything south to be fixed. 5th day of rain here and it is not even the rainy season yet, LOL.

Joking aside, Lynn is the end of the road for central Canada
and the real gateway to the true wilderness.
Despite what they say, it's far from dead, lot of reconstruction going on
and if it's future is not from mining right now, there is a lot business for
the support of the tourism industry.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
yes that is true, i tell people what it is like to travel over the so-called road and what it is really like up here. the fishing is great, the people are great at the cafe table of truth but there is a dark side to everything too. so when you come up just be aware of the dark side of things. it is no different in southern places too.
but this year the ice was late leaving and the rain has not stopped. we had 3 hot days this summer and we are still waiting for rest of summer to arrive. the fishing has been realy good and the water is high so you are not whacky the prop of your boat motor.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
Today, we had people quitting fishing at noon after 135 catches...
And isn't it great not to have to worry about all these shoals,(they all being under four feet of water)
having all these sweet beaches to back up to and outboards
not being ripped off by rocks?

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
yes the fishing is good this year and the water is high but it has been my busiest year for damage to boats and motors. when the water is low, people are more carefull. will be posting on my website as i fix a boat that hit a rock or the rock hit the boat. it will be a tricky repair but i think i have enough beer to get the job done.

Re: Can anyone tell me about Lynn Lake?
I don't know about the airport manager if its the guy I think it was. Came in there in a Navajo one night last year out of Yellowknife, went to click on the lights and only the taxiway and the approach path lights came on. Pull up and make a call and some guy comes on the radio and says he'll go out to the drome to see what the problem is. Throttle back and start to orbit and after about 15 he comes on and says a storm went through that afternoon and must have screwed something up. Sounded very drunk. Not impressed. Never did get runway lights.
The hotel guy came out and got us and took us into town. The descriptions above are pretty accurate. Good brekky at the hotel and then the tour of the town. Very nice maybe ten year old bungalow, three bedroom, for sale for 18.000. Kids everywhere, some of the young FN folks have a bit of a hard on for the whites and some problems come from that.
King Air Medivac guy at the airport. Helpbul and seemed like a nice guy. Don't know what he was going to do in the middle of the night with no lights, but...
Glad to hear that things are good tourist wise at least.
