I saw a documentary a few weeks ago about this (not the guy mentioned above, but on sailing around the world solo in general). They said fewer people have done that, then have been into space.... the youngest person to sail around the world alone.

Sailing solo around the world is an incredible accomplishment.
And at 17?! Holy crap. His poor mother.

LOL loopa, the kid was more laid back and cool about his legitimate question than the way you jumped all over him
Well done though! The first solo is one hell of a great feeling!

Fly safe all.
I'm just saying that a kid shouldn't feel "i'm the best in canada" just cause he soloed at 14. That attitude won't go far. Being laid back and cool about it however? Now that's a character people want to see in leaders.
As far as proud of accomplishments? All to you kiddo.

Charlie Hillard soloed at age 12 while his parents were away.

Re: Youngest To Solo In Canada.
While its all fine and dandy for these kids to be out there living the dream, personally I'd be more impressed with them if they had paid for their licence by themselves at fourteen. When I told my father I wanted to become a pilot, he said "good, get a job so you can pay for it." Needless to say I didn't solo until I was twenty. Yes, I'll admit that I'm a little irked when someone comes in throws their credit card down and says make my child a pilot.
I'm more impressed by the older folks who still get it together to go solo. I think the oldest person I sent on their first solo was sixty-four, though I'm pretty sure that isn't the record, I seem to remember its held by someone's Grandma in their late seventies, but not a hundred percent sure on that one and too lazy right now to google it.

That is Carl Millard's grandson. At the time ( within 5 yrs ago ) he was said to be the youngest solo having soloed fixed and rotary both on the same day.Hedley wrote:I remember a kid who soloed both fixed wing and

can beat that, go for it.
How about "oldest to fly solo"?
...isn't he the best pilot you've ever seen?....Yeah he is ....except when I'm shaving.........

Which Carl Millard?
I ask because my grandfather and "Senior-Senior" Carl Millard were fast friends, ex-business partners going back to the 1920's and 30's., and lived in the same "old folks home" in Ingersoll, Ontario ... one floor apart.
The "young Carl Millard Senior" often came to Ingersoll, and I stand to be corrected, but I think he was born in Ingersoll.

I'd suggest you read up on psychology and more factored into teen agers and how they functions before you make a statement like that. Teenagers these days are all about trying to find a way to relieve them selves from working hard. If this kid thinks he's Canada's best, is there really going to be much motivation to continue and fulfill his potential as an excellent pilot? Probably not. That's up for debate though.ng78 wrote:LOL loopa, the kid was more laid back and cool about his legitimate question than the way you jumped all over him![]()

I have no need to tell people who I am, where I am and what I do. The community of pilot's and friends who know me know where I stand and I know where they stand and we have mutual respect for each other. That's to cover your "smart ass" remark about me not keeping my cool.
Peace out homie.

Unless the rules have changed a person could not hold a student pilot permit unless they are 15 and you needed that to fly solo.

I thought I would make reference again to the (BOY'S) question. He was just being curious, maybe because CTV (who thought it to be worth reporting)did a story on a 13 year old from Toronto area who was to be the youngest in Canada to solo on his 14th Birthday in June of this year. So he asked the question. He wasn't stating he was the best and he certainly didn't solo to be the youngest, he did it because he loves to fly. And Loopa I might add, he looks for work to do he doesn't hide from it. I have read more arrogance and have seen more ego come out of the answer to the question, then the question itself.

Re: Youngest To Solo In Canada.
wow loopa, if i could id punch you in the friggin head.
but what can you do over the internet right?
The kid jimbo only asked a simple question cause he was curious and he's happy.
and im happy.
and im proud.
he didnt sound like he was being full of himself at all.
even though he has the right to be full of himself cause he has his career planned out for him and hes
good at what he does and he's been flying since he was 11-12.
so the next time you wanna go on the internet and 'try' to give advice when you sound like the one with
your head up your as$, just to let you know you dont know every teenager in the world
and you can read any book or look at any website but were not all the same.
let us have some happiness once in a while when we do accomplish something great.
cause the only thing youre accomplishing right now is the title of idiot.

Normally it's the kids in the sand box who get in to the name-calling business.
Grow up yourself champ.
The thread has really altered its course now and has no point having further discussion applied to it. If you feel very strongly about telling me what to do and how to speak with people, then I'd be glad to take it away from the public posts and save everybody's time
