What was the first airplane you ever flew in as a passenger?
Subsequent to my other thread, what was the first airplane you ever went up in?
My first trip was on an Air Canada Vickers Viscount routing Montreal-Ottawa-Val D'or-Earlton in 1969.

In 1987, still the sexiest plane IMHO.
She’s built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.

My wife has fond memories of flying El Al. She vividly remembers a purser wheeling a commisary cart down the aisle. When he hit her foot, he didn't back up and move it around her. He pulled it back and jammed it up over her foot, giving her a dirty look.

When I was a kid, we played a home-and-away hockey series with a team from Iqaluit.
My first time on a plane was on GFRB on the trip up north.
I eventually went on to fly GFRB as an F/O.

GAds what a bunch of youngsters. Mine was either a DC4 or a DC-6. 4 engine prop, not pressurized.

My first airplane ride was in a Sea Bee off the water in 1947.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

The first one I remember was in a Beaver in northern Ontario, I was very young at the time. I've been told by my family that the first thing I flew in was a DC-9 when I was six days old.

That is the theme song from MASH, that song always goes through my head when I see that helicopter.HS-748 2A wrote:niss wrote:Suicide is painless....it brings on many changes.....and I can take or leave it if I please!!!!!!

The old man was a mountie, I used to fly with him all the time to nain, davis inlet, rigolet, etc from Goose Bay when I was a kid. Good memories.
Re: What was the first airplane you ever flew in as a passenger?
My first was this Air Canada Boeing 727 (C-GYNA), as a few-months-old baby in 1985, from Montreal to Vancouver.
First one I actually remember was a Piper Navajo from St-Hubert to Sept-Iles (CYHU-CYZV).
Edit 1, 2009-11-01: Asked my parents.
Edit 2, 2010-01-20: Found actual video taken in flight, including some shot in the flight deck, hence the exact registration.

I can never decide what looks better: Twin Otter with the playboy tires in the picture, or the tundra wheels.Troubleshot wrote:The old man was a mountie, I used to fly with him all the time to nain, davis inlet, rigolet, etc from Goose Bay when I was a kid. Good memories.
Sleek looking 40 year old.

Re: What was the first airplane you ever flew in as a passenger?
No, the airplane was operated by Northern Wings at the time but I believe it may have been leased by them and owned by the guy who was flying it, Henri-Paul Boudeau. I remember the colour was yellow and green. It may have been a Pacemaker, I was 5 at the time.
Re: What was the first airplane you ever flew in as a passenger?
Of the classiest, (or antiquey-est), airplanes I've had rides in;
Travelair 6000 on Floats, http://www.airminded.net/ta6000/ta6000.html
Fokker Super Universal
Waco UIC
Staggerwing Beech
and Grumman Goose.
Those were all thrills I'll never forget.
Oh; DC-3 too, but that became near 'routeen' at one point.
*Skyrocket and Pacemaker; is the difference the powerplant only? I could never tell them upart, I don't think.

Sure am.
It wasn't his UIC though, but I can certainly see your deduction there. It was a sister ship, in a way.
Some loops in the Stampe are up next hope..

If it's a sister to C-GAVL, was it Bob's old machine in YEG?
I videoed the taxi tests at Indus with the Fokker when it accidentally lifted off and took flight for the first time in 50 years. I left Canada shortly thereafter.
He and H came to stay with us last year. Say hello from bmc. He know who I am. He has an gine mount off a Goose that my dad flew with the RCAF. The wreck sits up at Hardy. Planned to make a bar table with it. May have been lost in his garage fire.
Thread hi-jack over.
