Kitfox Aircraft

Post by KHills »

Are these kits legal in canada? I dont see why they wouldn't be, but I cant find any examples in Canada. I have seen one on the site that they say had been built in South Africa, but other than that, they are only in the US.
Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about them?

Well most of them in Canada are registered as Advanced or basic ultralights:

Cool yeah ok, I've been looking at the 1200lb gross Kitfox IV which is not on that list so I guess I can register it as an experimental and not worry about it being an ultralight?

I think so the easiest thing to do is call TC and ask to speak to someone. I have seen a bunch of these out in the parries and cottage country.

Good Luck

I've got about 5 hours in a Kitfox IV with a rotax 912 and a variable pitch prop. It was an absolute riot to fly. 2 seats and about 600lb useful load. It was registered as an advanced ultra-light. I flew it on wheels initially and then it was put on Full Lotus floats. The only downside to the plane going on the floats was with flat bottoms it didn't do well with any kind of chop on the water. I'm not sure who's making the kit's any more, I think Skystar went bankrupt a few years ago. If you can get your hands on one enjoy it, you'll have a blast.

The Kitfox was a clone of the Avid flyer. Dean Wilson designed the Avid and his partner, Dan Denny split and started producing the Kitfox which was basicaly the Avid. My son has an Avid.

On a cool day you are off the ground in 100 to 150 feet. It will haul more than a J3, take off shorter, land much shorter and you can buy 4 of them for the price of a J3.
