Fire Boss gear up
Talk on the street is a Fire Boss landed gear up at czam. Notam at czam indicated runway closed due to aircraft disabled on the runway.
Re: Fire Boss gear up
Hope it is not true but if it is, at this rate BC will be out of Fireboss's before the fire flap ends. Maybe they will actually get some real scoopers out that way!!

Re: Fire Boss gear up
Why are we not sending most of our 415's out to BC? It's another good year to be a tree in Ontario, and very valuable real estate is being threatened in BC. They could be back in Ontario in a day if needed.
Then, if they really get serious, there's always Evergreen...

Re: Fire Boss gear up
No money to pay for it after the Olympics cost overage.
Re: Fire Boss gear up
Actually Doc, Ontario has offered up it's entire fleet of 415's to BC but apparenlty they feel they are adequately covered with scoopers as they have 6 Fireboss's in the province.
Also just heard they are evacuating parts of Kelowna again!!

I should think a 415 would drop a hell of a lot more water than a 'Boss?? Then there's the wee problem of that pesky gear.....
Guess Kelowna isn't all that important to the BC government???

BCFS is being VERY stingy on the flying this year for some reason, it's only recently that they've brought on enough helicopters, they've not handed out contracts the way they have in the past in 2009... not sure why.
Until it explodes here, which it hasn't just yet, my bet is they'll hold off on the foreign iron.
That said, I'll be on again Tuesday morning - let you know how it works out....!

He landed gear up on purpose; he could not confirm the position of his gear as he had other failures in the aircraft. He elected to land on the runway because it was safer than going to the water not knowing the position of the gear.

Which was the correct decision.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.
