Wasaya Direct Entry Pilatus Captain

Post by Easy Flyer »

Wasaya is a decent sized operation. Is there really nobody in-house they could upgrade?

I would assume nobody wanted to relocate to Winnipeg.

Despite the economy people are still moving on and others are moved up. There are openings in Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.

Of course, you would have to cough up, what is it for the PC12, like 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS to buy the job.....plus another large sum of money to BUY your next position with the SAME company. Maybe some are actually seeing the "light"?

Didn't mean to start the "age old" argument here. Just thinking, it could be a factor? No?

I guess I guy could always go to Kenora, and get hired with a good ol' handshake. No money down...just a promise of good will and hard work with loyalty forever.

It may have been the way it was done...but not anymore. There is no trust today between employer and employee, and there never will be again.

It's the way it's done now. People can't wrap their heads around the differences between the past and present. Things are ever changing and people tend to dwell about the way things were, instead of moving on. It was great years ago that bonds didn't exist. However, they do now. You can be selective and try to avoid them if you like based on morals or agendas..feel free. The road may be longer to get where your going, but @#$! it, you can still sleep at night knowing you did it the old way. Then you can get up in the morning and shovel your mile long driveway instead of using the snowblower because that's the way dad used to do it.

It's easier to live in the past than move on. It's not just training bonds...its everything...like, how much better the music was, or cars were built better, or houses were built better, or I could get a pop, bag of chips, chocolate bar and an ice cream for .25.

If the guy is honest Doc he/she will get there 10k back with interest, If not then I guess the employer was right in protecting his/her investment.

Sorry for the hijack

WOW...

WOW....

Has the whole world turned into a race of humans with no integrity?

What next, will employers hire security people to check the pilots as they leave work to make sure they have not stolen things belong to the employer before they can leave work?

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.

After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Doc....seriously, could you give it up already?? We ALL get it...we understand how you feel, do you have to bring it up constantly? No wonder people are starting to leave this forum for other ones, this mantra of yours gets old VERY fast. How about you sit on the side lines for a bit and just let other people have a discussion without you getting involved? Wait....never mind, that's not possible is it? Oh well, there was hope at one point I guess. Sorry everyone we'll have endure doc's constant and incessant whining or whatever you want to call it about how this isn't right or what an idiot someone is for making a mistake..........how predictable this has become.

TAWS, if you were to start flying for us tomorrow, we would not bond you, in any way, shape or form.....even though may feel obligated to pass me a few K under the table, there would be no need to do so.
We don't have guys leave....wonder why....?

But, even I can understand the need to bond folks at Wasaya. Anybody with half a brain would bail within a month if they didn't stand to loose money. They are a bunch of good guys, but they work within a system, where they are considered peons. This would become obvious to all but the dimmest light on the porch.

I work within a totally different frame of mindset. If one of our guys disagrees with something within our system, we can actually voice an opinion. The Wasaya way, is to consider pilots as morons. It's their corporate climate. It's just the way it is. Hell, we can argue this till the cows come home, but deep down, you know it's true. Compare our pilot turn over rate. We don't have one. Kind of like the Hotel California......you can check out, but you can never leave....cheers.

Doc,

The brief description of the corporate culture at your place has me almost sending over a resume.....4500TT, 2500PIC, and so on and so on....

Move people up slowly, give them lots of responsibilities, pay them well, be receptive to their initiatives, and they will most likely overstay their welcomes. No bond required...

Problem is doc has narrow vision. He forgets that Kenora is a desirable place to live. If you are ok not to move and don't mind years of stagnant movement, which most seem to be. Then they have no problem with the little bit of FO training they currently encounter. Put Walsten in Pickle Lake and you would have a revolving door too eating at your thin margins. Many companies with and without bonds all possess the same culture you profess.

Quit flattering yourself Doc. you are embarrassing us older guys with your bs.

So, set me see if I have this straight. Because Pickle Lake is a hole, it's Okay to charge folks to work there? Is that about the gist of it? And I'm off base, because I don't agree with the practice? I guess all the rest of you are just tripping over yourselves to pay for your jobs? Have at 'er! It's your bed....lie in it.

Why do we call pilot jobs "direct entry"? You're hiring a captain, then advertise for a captain.

Can't believe they would have a hard time finking somebody to leave YPL or YXL or even YQT to go to Winnipeg?

Ignore me. I live in a "desirable" location. WTF would I know?

Two things:

- seniority will never guarantee you stay in ywg
- nobody wants to stay in ypl,yqt etc... long. they get their time and move on. Maybe they don't pay moves etc...

Ya know I don't really agree with the bond thing either. I've been around too long to know that people will grin fuk you to get the job. Get their time and move on or simply grin u to be with your company and now you are stuck with a real dandy you wished you never hired.

The intro of the bond simply tries to hang on to a fellow for a reasonable amount of time so it doesn't destroy the inner workings of the Smaller companies. Think of the training cost and more importantly the route knowledge these guys pass along with a little time.

Canada hasn't hired like it has in the last few years. I think you totally forgot about that too Doc. Air Can, WJ, Canjet, Skyservice, Transat etc all sucked hard in this last cycle to the pilot numbers you never saw before in the mid 80's or mid 90's. The smaller pilot suppliers were all feeling the draw therefore had to try something or anything. Guess that's why you missed the point that things will always change. Like it or not. They all don't have lucrative court contracts etc.

Location has a lot more to do with it than you think. Ask the hundreds of commuters in our airlines.

ignore you?

So Doc, if one of your pilots came to you with a different opinion like say:
Problem is doc has narrow vision. He forgets that Kenora is a desirable place to live. If you are ok not to move and don't mind years of stagnant movement, which most seem to be. Then they have no problem with the little bit of FO training they currently encounter. Put Walsten in Pickle Lake and you would have a revolving door too eating at your thin margins. Then could one expect an reply from you based on your previous mentioned company mindset:
I work within a totally different frame of mindset. If one of our guys disagrees with something within our system, we can actually voice an opinion
or would your reply be like this:
So, set me see if I have this straight. Because Pickle Lake is a hole, it's Okay to charge folks to work there? Is that about the gist of it? I might be completely out to lunch here, but if you want someone to work in a shit hole you should be compensated for working there. Even if the place sucks to live, if the rotation, pay, equipment and working conditions are right people will stay.

ok fly.
so what do you think? every company that flies out of less desirable places should cough up? How do you know if they can afford to pay what? 20% more 30% more. you tell me.

It sounds like your sense of well earned  entitlement is alive and well.
or better yet please describe margins of various airlines up north to support your suggestion.

Some of these undesirable places are willing to pay unskilled highschool drop out labor 100 + thousand a year just to attract workers but pilots still get paid shit pay, and some are surprised why they get out as soon as they can.
