Do I need to stamp my logbook?
Hi I'm applying for the comercial license but I change of FTU and didn't got my logbook stamped to verify the hours, I do have my PTR signed but it doesn't have all my building hours. Do I have to go back and get it signed or it's not really necessary? It's quite far and I don't have the time to do that, is there anything else I can do?
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
There is no legal requirement in the CARs to have your
logbook signed (anybody know of one?).
That said, everybody does it, I guess to create a
higher comfort level.
Your Authorized Person may or may not give
you static on it, depending upon their personal
views on the subject.

I live in Toronto now, where can I get a phone number to call and ask the question directly?Hedley wrote: Your Authorized Person may or may not give

Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
uh, at the place you intend to get your next
licence signed off at. I presume you'd have
the phone number for it.

Well for some reason I managed to go through all the training without hearing that term but I guess you can learn something new every day, even from an assflyingdan wrote:Not to sound like an ass (though I guess if I have to preface my reply with that statement, I will sound like an ass anyway) but if you got your PPL in Canada, how can you not know what an Authorized Person is?

Nightbird, An authorized person is also one who signs out your student permit, which serves as temporary Private/commercial permit (90days) once signed at the back, again by an Authorized person. If you’ve got your student permit, you would be able to find it.
Don’t worry too hard about the stamps. As long as you forward your license through an approved FTU, you should be fine. There are voices you’ll hear about taking photographs etc at the stopover’s…I personally think that’s diversion!
Some folks keep fuel receipts, I did. I also had stamps taken, but more for personal requirements. In my case the FTU did all the paperwork for my CPL, and they did nice, so didn’t need to produce any evidence of the Xcountry’s to TC....even for cross country's flown outside Canada...
Enjoy your cross country’s mate! …

Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
hey thanks for the reply, the FTU that I was before had gps tracking on the plane so that will cover for the x-country verification, what I don't have is the logbook signed to verify my total time, what I wonder is if there's any other way to do that because is really a pain in the ass to make the trip back to get it signed, the FTU that I'm now is asking for that to process my license so I guess I will talk to the and see if we can find a solution. Thanks again
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
Sigh. This is not required by the CARs. However, it is up to thethe FTU that I'm now is asking for that to process my license
discretion of the Authorized Person whom is signing the licence
off.
What I might suggest is that your Authorized Person at your
current FTU call your old FTU and verify over the phone that
you flew there.
Do keep in mind that flight schools are only required to
store Daily Flight Sheets for 2 years, so the clock is ticking.
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
I will talk to them and see what they say, it's being just a few months since I left so I should be ok. Thanks Hedley
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
If they insist on it being stamped just take it to the TC office yourself and have them process it.nightbird wrote:I will talk to them and see what they say, it's being just a few months since I left so I should be ok. Thanks Hedley

Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
Being an authorized person I can tell you there is no legal requirement to have your logbook stamped. It used to be a requirement for certain ratings certifying you meet training standards. Your logbook is a legal document, and I have to take it at face value. If you padded your logbook, its not my head on the chopping block but yours. Besides the PPL, and CPL require you to submit a PTR which does need to be signed and certified by you and your instructor.
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
Agree with all of the above.
Suggest to the Authorized Person at your current FTU
that if he is squeamish about the times at your previous
FTU, that he call them up and talk very briefly to the CFI/
Authorized Person there.
Suggest that he randomly picks one of the entries out
of your personal logbook, and over the phone verify
that single entry with the previous FTU, by them looking
up the daily flight sheet.
If that isn't good enough for him, f__k him, get someone
else to sign off your commercial (eg Transport District
Office).
In what part of the country are you located?

Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
The only time I need to sign a Logbook is under CAR 421.05 - Recency Requirements
That being said, one of TC's big things these days seems to be the validity of time building hours towards the commercial licence, so do make sure your ducks are in a row before submitting a licence application.(b) the flight instructor completing the flight review shall certufy in the holder's personal log that the skill requirement has been met, and
(d) The certification in (b) above shall read:
"this is to certify that the skill requirement for ___________ (permit or licence) has been met" and shall include the date name and the licence number of the instructor.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
Re: Do I need to stamp my logbook?
To save the trouble, I used the PTR and logged everything I did for my commercial even the time building. That way I got my instructor to sign every page. Maybe not the best way to do it but it takes account of everything. It helps I did way more than 200 hrs required; some students did just the 200 hrs to get their bare minimums and submitted their application.
