Canadian Pacific 707
I have been trying locate some information and pictures on the single B 707 that CPA used. I know they lost control of it on landing at CYVR and ended up off of the runway near the south terminal.

Beat me to it!
The book I have lists it as a short-body 707-138 and under Australian Registration as VH-EBC.

Pod strike on the delivery flight. Not a great start.
VH-EBC 07JUL59 Departed Seattle on delivery flight
VH-EBC 09JUL59 Arrived Sydney at 1638. No 4 pod strike on arrival. (TT: 20:00)

Thanks for the fantastic info. The color and b+w pics are awesome. I did not realize that the damage was that extensive.
Since CPA were operating the DC 8's at that time what prompted them to get a 707 instead of another DC 8? It seems rather odd to have an 'odd duck' in its fleet.

Re: Canadian Pacific 707
They actually had a DC-8 which earned the distinction of being the first supersonic airliner. It happened during a test flight regime before CP took delivery.

Actually, it was a bit of a stop-gap while CP waited to take delivery of their DC-8-63s. They simply needed something in the meantime, so they leased the 707-138 from Standard Airways (complete with crew).ehbuddy wrote:Thanks for the fantastic info. The color and b+w pics are awesome. The airplane that over-ran the runway at YVR was indeed a B707 but I believe it was owned and operated by Capital Airways from the USA and leased by CPAir.( Late sixties?)
