I'm surprised too. Maybe it is so obvious that everyone tries to think about another choice!

Wow, surprised nobody has mentioned this aircraft yet. The SU-37 or Su-30mkii
Watch the videos and check out those 0 airspeed moves. Russian fighters are sick!

Yea, that fast jets (F-5E, F-22 etc) are neat....but I would have to agree with either the Tigercat...or one of these:

Mosquito +3 gives me a real woody but give me an A10 with a full load of goodies. I have a grudge.

I managed to get a few hours in the CF-104 Dual while based in Germany and for a 200 hr PP at the time it was a blast. And after more than half a century in this business, I still think that it rates right up there with the best of them

And the TSR2 is so ugly that the earth rejected it! Long live the Arrow...in my dreams

P.S. I might suggest the Cayley Glider, but I'm obviously biased
Be careful, you'll claim flying was invented by an Englishman next...
And the TSR2
Yes, what a disobedient bunch of people Britain had at Boscombe Down... Every bit of the TSR program was supposed to be scrapped as was done to the Arrow. How could they possibly have missed a complete TSR in the back of the hangar?
If only the Canadians were a little more disobedient we'd perhaps have more than a nose to look at.

The best plane is the one you can hop in and fly, no matter what it is!. Rest is a pipe-dream!.

How about the original Wright Flyer? I'd love a chance to fly that. Or the Silver Dart replica. Another aircraft I've always been fascinated by is the Gossamer Condor that flew under pedal power across the English Channel. It's in a museum in Seattle right beside an SR-71.

Of the types I've flown, my fave was the CT114 Tutor, solo without an instructor watching my every move. I still remember my first solo in it. I looked to the right and thought, "Look at that pitot tube out there, I don't usually see that!"

These are nowhere near the airplanes my father used
to fly in the Good Old Days (eg F-104) but they're fun
to zip around in nonetheless:

Sure looks like it. I must say +1 to the Hunter (did my apprenticeship at Dunsfold and Kingston during Harrier days) and Mossy

Dunsfold and Kingston
I've flown into Dunsfold, did jury duty on Cadbury Park Road at Kingston Crown Court... But I'm a Weybridge man!
But was seconded to Hurn at Chester (Airbus 310 wings), and to Filton at Hatfield (BAe 146 fuselage/hydraulic bay, U/C, and wing centre section).

I'd love to fly a VC10, one of the most elegant airliners ever built.
I was there when the last five Concorde fuselages were on the line at Weybridge... These were going down the same line in the same building as the Vickers Vimy that did the first nonstop flight across the Atlantic 90 years ago.
And yes, it would be fun to fly a Vimy too.

The best aeroplane ever would be the one that you can fly right now for pleasure.
It's nice to dream, but we should enjoy what we have.

The worst aeroplane ever is what is given to many young commercial pilots in Canada who are urged to fly under the worst conditions in ill equipped old aeroplanes with dubious maintenance and carried over snags not written in the journey log...

Speaking of "elegant", and just to slow things down a bit ...

There's nothing wrong with the raw power of fast jets or high performance pistons; but I personally think there's something to be said about getting close & personal with a mountain in a glider. Not any specific type, just any of the higher performance sailplanes.

Sorry champ, but Top Gun got nuthin to do with my selection.
Been dreaming about that plane since long before '86.
