Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
My favourite A/C is the one I get paid to fly! Honourable mention goes to the L100-30, DC3, and any float plane. Biggest disappointment was not having the chance to fly the Twin Otter.
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
fav a/c..Be20, surprised no one has mentioned it. always liked the Chieftain, but the B777 is swell and pays the bills.
wish I flew a beaver or otter on floats

Except that you just have to remember one speed. 90 for unstick cruise and land. There's some kind of tremendous satisfaction you feel flying a UC-64A, not the least being it has such a heritage, history, and unique "culture". On top of that, it's not an "easy" plane to fly,

Swordfish declared:
I would venture that the DC-3 (wheels, floats, skis, IFR, multi-engine) would be an aircraft that would test your skills more, and probably be more likely to bite you if you screwed up.
The truth is, any aircraft can test your skills. It just depends on how high you set the bar.
I don't really want to use this aircraft to test my IFR skills, and the closest the Norseman will get to testing multi-engine skills is if there is a generator or outboard in the back. You are left with only 1 real airplane that will require & test all the skills you have acquired up to this point: The Norduyn Norseman, Mark V - floats, wheels, and skis, of course!

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

The DC3 on wheel / skis is one of the easiest airplanes to fly you will find.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Toughest thing being to find one these days.
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
My favourite two airplanes have to be the L-19 and the Pitts. The L-19 made sure you where awake for landing - and was a blast to fly - good viz for an airplane without a canopy! The Pitts is just an awesome machine - you can do a lot of things with it - and it just begs you for more!

Yes, that would definitely be fun! Trouble is you have to be in the military to strap one on & try it out.Rockie wrote:Hornet

Islander. I flew it enough that the noise has melted my brain to the point that it is the only plane I can think of... like when a person becomes brain damaged but still remembers to smile at their family... oh the noise, the glorious noise...

Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
The Cessna 180/185s have always been my favorites to fly, whether on floats or wheels, of all the types I have in my logbook. There's certain sturdiness with the airplane that makes you feel like she can do what ever it is you ask of her. She goes fast enough, hauls enough and lands and takes off short enough. In particular there was one that had the same interior decor and fitting that a '76 Bronco I used to have did. Both ideal for going fishing.
If I had to choose an airplane that I wish I could fly it would have to be a Hs-123.

CT-114, your own personal little jet.
Having a standard that pilots lose their licence after making a mistake despite doing no harm to aircraft or passengers means soon you needn't worry about a pilot surplus or pilots offering to fly for free. Where do you get your experience from?
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
Favourite : C-130. Wish I could: F86A Sabre and later model Spitfire
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
ok all you 747 pilot wannab'es this thread can go to show ya that bigger is not always the best, it may depend on many more things.
Re: Favourite Airplane to fly
I second the BE20. Great range, good speed, nice hand flying machine, and enough power on one engine to drag you out of any situation.

The P180. Fast, forgiving, feather-light controls. In close second the BN2A. Works hard and takes no brains to fly.

Maybe I shoulda said a max of 300 hours :S
Either way, it's not a lot! If I ever went through with the airforce, my top pick would be transport, then high performance.

What do they do the rest of the time? Fly the sim and do some paperwork?flying4dollars wrote:And you'd only get to fly 300 hours on it a yearswordfish wrote:Yes, that would definitely be fun! Trouble is you have to be in the military to strap one on & try it out.Rockie wrote:Hornet
