Seems some poor bastard lost his job and had to leave Canada to find work.

Best response I can think of is wish him well.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.

After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Ditto.

Best of luck with the new work, and we get to Italia quite a bit, Venice area, perhaps we'll pop by for a coffee some day.

Best of luck cplpilot,

I am in 'almost' the same boat, i am finishing my cpl and it looks as if i will have to go to Africa to fly for a living for a while (prolly 10 years commitment).

I know that for some, having a dual citizenship and a shot at a right seat on an A320, seems like a good opportunity but leaving Canada is really hard. I would really rather to get a job north of sixty flying a half-decent turboprop but even this seems like years of flying crappy machines for crappy money to get to.

Again best of luck, enjoy Italy it is wonderful there !

First off good luck

An Observation:
I have noticed that when times are tough you will see all sorts of threads started about Converting their licence to JAA or FAA etc etc. Jobs in Aus or US and of course we get international posts inquiring about jobs here in Canada.

I understand you need a job but when their is a global recession is the grass greener elsewhere? This poster obviously had citizenship and all his JAA licences to land a job, its kinda funny to think that some posters actually think that there is a plethora of flying jobs out there during an economic down turn.

Thanks guys... just to clarify, i was working in a non aviation related job but was doing a very good living. That allowed me to have a mortgage, a wife, a son, 2 cars and a CPL-ME-IFR... lost a job a could not find anything that payed off my bills. After 13 years in Canada i decided to come back to my family in Italy and see what comes up. I got 3 job offers all good enought to pay also a subsciption in a fitness club!!
I came to Canada when i was 22 and single with NO RELATIVES and i did all by myself... I got to love Canada, the people, the aviation, and also the weather.
i am looking forward for a new life but a piece of my heart will be always in the magical, beautiful Canada!!!
Ciao to everyone and please PM me and i will send you my cell number, we will talk in Italian, english, drink good beer and eat good food!!! ... Venice also is not too far away...

It will pass, cplpilot, I left Canada five years ago, to work, of all places, in Af. I missed Canada for a while, but now, it sems I can't find the time to go there more than once a year, and I get bored the minute I land at Pearson.
Life is strange, isn't it?
It will pass...

You go where the work is, period.

It's really simple.

Work = money = food, shelter, clothing, [ fun stuff ], [ more fun stuff ], etc.

:)

Italy is pretty good.

Food is good, italian women, and more italian women.

Good observation. I left Oz when things were bad there, to come to the Land of Opportunity, and found it just as bad over here.

However, in Europe, you will probably have an easier time getting work with relatively more experience that many others there. But over the years I've discovered that the grass isn't greener on the other side...just a different shade of green.

btw, .....nice library of resource links!

Few ex-pats live in another country without questioning whether it's the right place to be, and all ex-pats wonder at times.

But there are few perfect places in this world for most people. We don't all find our Shanghri La's.

Most parts of the civilised world have positives and negatives in equal amounts.
I have been to Italy once, and Sicily once and both times for only a few hours... It's a place for me to see somewhen in the future I hope.
But I have spent some time in the South of France and I would be happy there.
I have spent time in Switzerland and I would be happy there too...
And Thailand, well there's a bit of heaven.
But I think it will be Devon and the West Country for me in time.

"It's what you make of it", I am told.
I see this part of Canada, BC, as one of the most beautiful places in this world, and it's great for flying.
I need to do more longer trips and I think of the Okanagan as being only an hour and a half away, why don't I go there?
Money is the big problem here... The government wrote to me to say my pension will be $62.50 a month! The writing is on the wall there!

Old age and stay here?
NBW! Have you seen how poor urban planning is destroying the Lower Mainland as sprawl spreads like a cancer across the landscape?
I talked about this with a Canadian friend who lives in the UBC area, it's nice there, Jericho Beach and all that... But it costs real money to live there...
A whole lot more than a small place in Devon...

So Canada is good for a lot of things, it's a great place to live if you can afford it.
If you have lived anywhere else and can make comparisons, well there are other parts of the world where contentment can be found.

Change is inevitable in life, we should embrace change and welcome new experiences, as long as they are not nasty.

Pension is the big thing. In Canada, you will be poor with 3000 dollars a month. This is why most pensionners find work to supplement their earnings and live a litle better.
I know a place where you can live like a king with 500 a month.
Medical care is better than rural Canada at least. No waiting, for people with money, and very cheap.
This is a city of 2 million people, not some stranded beach.
Weather is as good as the Caribbeans, but no ocean. You can build your own swimming pool for 4000 dollars.

I was supposed to drive down to Aosta this afternoon.

Instead, we'll go to Laggo d'Orta next weekend.

Glad you enjoyed your time in Canada. I went back to Canada two weeks ago on business. Said hello to the family and had a great time. Not quite ready to return, though.

I don't know how the ins and out of living are, but I certainly liked what I saw in the Province of Sarawak around Kuching, Malaysia. Borneo is a semi-autonimous region of Malaysia, a little more multi-cultural and not as homogeneously muslim as the Malay mainland.

I haven't been there yet. Only Singapor. But I am a fan of Central Asia. Best kept secret...
I think I prefer to live here than in Thailand.
