Working life/accident insurance
Just having a discussion around the water cooler here.
How much does your company provide for death and total disability coverage while at work flying?

$0 if killed while acting as a member of a flight crew. Anybody know of a better insurance company?
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......
Re: How much are you insured for?
They say you're more likely to die on the way to the airport than in an airplane. Hopefully that brings you some peace. But seriously, go with someone else.$0 if killed while acting as a member of a flight crew. Anybody know of a better insurance company?

Re: How much are you insured for?
The coverage provided by work is likely to be voided anyway by the fact that you are covered by Worker's Comp. You need private coverage, not the liability coverage your employer is required to have. Read the fine print.

Re: How much are you insured for?
IIRC, 'The Boss' gets ~ $400k if I thunder it in at work. I was thinking of getting set up with PPIP to add to that as well..
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: How much are you insured for?
300,000 + 2 1/2 times annual salary. If it happens while occupying a crew seat on behalf of my employer, 500,000 + 2 1/2 times annual salary (and that is under a separate cover paid for by the employer)
Re: How much are you insured for?
These figures, 3,4 and 500K, are they covered totally by your employer or are you paying premiums to have these amounts?
Re: How much are you insured for?
I have to chip in 20$ a month for 400K

Re: How much are you insured for?
My last company insured me for 50 grand for my family and 250 grand for my boss.
Re: How much are you insured for?
Why it it that I find the idea of my boss collecting $ for my thundering it in a scary prospect? Anyhow, SISIP (ex-military) $400k for death of any kind what so ever (even suicide... go figure) I have a hard time trusting private insurance anyhow.Flybaby wrote:My last company insured me for 50 grand for my family and 250 grand for my boss.

The 2 1/2 times annual salary and the $500,000 are covered completely by the employer in our case.
The $300,000 is a shared premium. My share = $12.76 per month.
The 2 1/2 times salary is a basic coverage that every employee gets paid for by the employer. The 300,000 is a voluntary extra to every employee that is cost shared (although the employee share is less). That 300,000 policy however is voided if you are at the controls of an aircraft at the time of death. Because of that unfair limitation, the employer has provided a separate cover to compensate flight crews which is the 500,000. As to why 500,000 and not just 300,000.....that was the least amount the underwriter would go for in that separate policy.

Re: How much are you insured for?
Does anyone know about a good Loss of Income insurance (for "own occupation", payable in the event that you're unable to work as a pilot anymore due to an accident, loss of medical, etc)?
Contract Based Employees' Responsibilities
Curious question posed during a recent hanger clean up/out/bonfire. Are contract based employees covered by the contracting party's insurance with regards to liability? Just wondering if pilots and engineers on contract are covered for injuries and damage caused during the lines of work, to them or by them, regardless of fault. Not concerend with those directly covered by provincial work cover but the realy nasty accident scenerio.
If thats not the case, who in Canada offers coverage for individuals?
