INRAT Question
Hey guys,
I've been studying for the INRAT for awhile now and am just in the process of going through the Aerocourse workbook. I came across a question that contradicted all the other material that I've read, including the same workbook. Question is,
You have established that you have had a two way communications failure while on an IFR flight plan. What would be your course of action?
a. If in visual conditions land at the nearest suitable aerodrome
b. Maintain a listening watch on the appropriate frequencies for control messages or further clearances.
c. Squawk mode A/3 code 7600.
d. All of the above
According to the Aerocourse book the correct answer is d. Based on the limited knowledge that I have I'd say b, and c are correct. In all the other material that I've read it says, squawk 7600, maintain listening watch, hold at clearance limit until your time expires then continue flight as planned at cleared altitude.
Can anyone explain, if in visual conditions land at the nearest suitable aerodrome?

"All of the above" is the correct answer.

Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC): If the failure occurs in VMC, or if VMC are encountered after the failure, the pilot-in-command shall continue the flight under VFR and land as soon as practicable.
NOTE
This procedure applies in any class of airspace. The primary purpose is to preclude extended IFR operation in controlled airspace in VMC. However, it is not intended that the requirement to “land as soon as practicable” be construed to mean “land as soon as possible.” The pilot retains the prerogative of exercising his/her best judgment and is not required to land at an unauthorized airport, at an airport unsuitable for the type of aircraft flown, or to land only minutes short of destination.

Never assume with a TC exam. Read the answers over and over. There are no If, and, or buts with them. My first answer would be similar to yours because they said on an IFR flight plan. I would natrually assume (until experience has taught otherwise) that they mean IMC. They will say IMC if thats what it is.
