Re: October G/S
nada...dont worry you will all know if I do!!..but not holding my breath...

Re: October G/S
BUMP........ What do y'all suppose is going on? What's with the lack of communication????
Re: October G/S
October 5th has a small class starting. Nothing solid after that.
Lack of communication is due to a lack of information. I know it's tough waiting.
Formal letters will be going out to the pool shortly and I will be personally touching base this Friday.
Dave.

Re: October G/S
Dave, have the people for the Oct. 5 groundschool been contacted?
Re: October G/S
October 5 was contacted 12 days ago.
Unlike workopolis, Sonic (our new resume service) doesn't generate an automatic reply nor give you the number of hits that your resume has or had been viewed. You simply submit your resume and it goes into our database. It would be impossible to reply to every applicant personally.
When I refer to our pool I mean the handful of candidates that we interviewed prior to the slowdown. These are the people that I will be contacting to update.
We are starting to get some guidance for future courses, but I can't comment on details or numbers yet. It looks good though.

Re: October G/S
Dave P. This may already be on here somewhere, but, for planning purposes for those wondering, how many pilots do you have hired (the pool) that are awaiting ground schools, and I know this is a hard one given the lack of information that you mentioned, but do you anticipate further interviews this fall as mentioned earlier. Thanks.
Re: October G/S
The pool size isn't that large. Interviews will begin in Nov/Dec.

Re: October G/S
Dave,
I have to say I love how you answer pretty much everybody's questions, usually with a really short delay !
I think this is a great display of work ethics and transparency ! If only more companies followed your lead. It would save us all a lot of headaches.
Thank you !

NegativeDid anyone in the pool get a call today?
Keep on Given Er
Re: October G/S
that brings me to my next question.... Dave, is there another ground school in October? If so, have those involved been contacted? And when are "the rest of us" going to get a call?
Re: October G/S
Hi Airmiles,
drop me a note on my personal westjet email and I'll answer you directly.
Cheers!

Re: October G/S
Heard rumours they are hoping for 2 classes in Oct and 1 in Jan. Are those all pool people or can we start to get excited again?

Re: October G/S
I heard interviews again in Nov-Dec for 2010.
I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...

Re: October G/S
It looks like I deleted the recent memo from crew planning, but I'm pretty sure it said 12 new hires in October so 2 groundschools of 6 each. Then I think it was 1 more groundschool of 6 to start in January. Also, 2 upgrades in November then 2 more in January.
DaveP can confirm and/or review all this. Also, it's been about a week so the plan may have changed
.
I don't know if these are pool hires but I would have to think that the October ones are anyway.

Re: October G/S
If you are interested in WJA growth profile and are even close on numbers of (new) drivers vs aircraft, you might enjoy viewing this westjet fleet plan (2009-2016ish) from westjet.com and start dreaming. It also does not include the next a/c type, which of course, is not public knowledge?!

In general (world wide recession aside) things at the teal team happen as planned or are better than planned.
(yeah I know, too much koolaid...it just tastes ssooooo good)
"enjoy the journey"
PS- Great job in keeping our to-be-drivers in the loop. Well done!!

Re: October G/S
hi to all,
Does a pilot with around 3000h total time, 1000 on >17000lbs aircraft stands a little chance of going to WJ ?
Thanks!

Re: October G/S
I would say it depends on even more specifics:
3000 hours on what specifically and 1000 on what specifically?
When I was hired in 2008 the specifics they looked for (but you didn't have to have them all)
were:
705 and/or jet experience
Glass Cockpit experience
Level D simulator experience
FMC experience
In my course the lowest time pilot was approximately 3800 hrs TT and the highest time was just over 9000. The 3800 hour pilot had PC12 and Lear Jet experience. The 9000 hour pilot had mostly turbine experience from king airs and 1900s.
You would have to ask DaveP personally but I would guess the average pilot getting hired had about 5000 hours give or take.
Hope this helps a bit....good luck!
