CPL or IFR?
I plan to do both eventually... not in a rush. I currently have a PPL, night, and *hopefully* will get my multi next week.
Whats the best route to take, in order for the most hours to count towards the other rating while doing the first.
I currently have about 115 hrs in a 172.... 8 of them on a multi.

Re: CPL or IFR?
If you do the IFR first, 20 hours in the sim and 20 in airplane (you will already have 10 hours as you have a night rating - so 30 to go) then that time will count towards your CPL total time and also the CPL requires 20 hours of instrument time. Whatever you did in the plane for your night dual/ solo plus whatever you did in the instrument rating dual will count towards the 35 dual and 30 solo requirement for the CPL license (Most CPL students will not require 35 dual hours solely to prepare for the CPL flight test so get some ratings along the way and build it in to the CPL, cheaper in the end. That's my opinion anyway.
Note: 50 hours cross-country required to do the instrument rating so this may be a factor in your decision.

Re: CPL or IFR?
Just to clarify the above post, the 20 hours sim will not count towards either the dual 35 hour requirement or towards the 200 hour total time for the CPL. Just read my post and that wasn't very clear on my part
Re: CPL or IFR?
So 10 hours dual for the night (including 5h of hood), 10h hood for the IFR, and around 10h for the multi (is this an average amount of dual for a multi rating?).
Legally, you could do 5h of dual for your CPL only.
The "new" exercises (not necessary during PPL) are the spins, the 180 power-off and a more precise diversion. Am I forgetting something?
Is it doable? Has anyone done or heard of someone doing the CPL with only 5h specific dual?
Thanks

Think ahead or fall behind!
Re: CPL or IFR?
I did only 8ish hours or so specifically towards my CPL flight test. The other time went to multi, night, and IFR. It still counts as CPL dual though.
Re: CPL or IFR?
My CPL application was rejected for insufficient dual hours...trampbike wrote:Is it doable? Has anyone done or heard of someone doing the CPL with only 5h specific dual?
