The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Very nice. I have a thing for old rag wings. You don't see too many PA-22 restorations with the nose dragger configuration anymore. I've also never seen one with the vent window on the left side...
First plane I 'flew'? A battered Calgary Flying Club 172 (SXP... I think). $35 for a discovery flight while I was finishing up my AME training started a life-long addiction... First lesson and solo in another 172, GHYG from Carson Air.
My dad had a Cherokee 180, CF-VPO, and I flew it when I was about 2 years old... with the wing leveller on, of course! I also had the job of walking under the wing and untying it.
First airshow : 1947 over Belle Isle, Detroit, one of the wildest dog fights between USAAF and USN with RCAF Mustangs thrown in for good measure.
First on-site airshow: Windsor Flying Club featuring the first jets in Canada, the Blue Devils in their super fast DH Vampire Mk 3s...well it was 1948 and I was 13 years old!!!!!
First airplane ride was in my father's Chipmunk in 1976. FBNL, now an N number. She was at Lethbridge airshow this year.
First time at the controls - Harvard FVYF about 1981
First Solo - Fleet Canuck 2003 FEAX - homebuilt category with an 0-235. Canuck on steroids. My brother just sold her...she will be missed

rudderbug/Giles: I first met Neal at an airshow in Windsor about 1950. I was an Air Cadet guarding the Loving's Love and I thought that it was the sleekest aircraft ever built.
Laurentide Aviation's C FVLA a Cherokee 140 from Cedars Airport near Dorion PQ with Derek Mc Laughland (sp?), March 1971.
Then November 1973; G BAPM a Fuji FA200-160 from Exeter Flying Club... I could have learned on that aeroplane at the same price as the Cessna 150 (£11.64/hr dual) but I was your typical fool and thought I would finish my licence in the land of the spamcan, Canada.
Learn to fly in something you enjoy!
I subsequently taught aerobatics in that Fuji a few years later from Higgin Bill.
First plane I laid hands on was a DHC-1 Chipmunk in RCAF Golden Hawk colors in 2000.
It was totaled a few years later after an engine failure. Still my favorite airplane.
