It's Cat I so what should I expect, any tips (if there are any?)

Breath deep and bend over and make sure you can't see both the doctors hands.

When they ask you to fill the cup ask for a magazine or a video to help.

Lay off the blow at least an hour before the exam, try no to smell like weed, I usually mask it with cologne, or you could just cover it up with the smell of cigarettes. They really don't look for E, acid, mushrooms, or quaaludes, so as long as you have a good poker face GIVER! I usually limit myself to one pot of coffee that day or it would throw off the blood pressure readings. They don't watch you pee, so if you want to bring some extra urine with you, bob's yer uncle.

Wear clean underwear, and make sure the doc at least wets his finger! Finally a humerous thread, and here was me thinking none of you had a sense of humor!

I always avoid caffeine before heading in, to make sure my BP isn't higher than it needs to be. I also avoid sweet treats for a while before, so my piss sugar isn't too high - won't be havin' the 'beetus!

What they are getting at is that it's super easy.

You walk in, check your sight, weight, read a paragraph, go in wait for doctor. Doctor comes in and gets u to say "AHHHHHH" and then he looks into ur ears and throat. Then you lie down and he presses you on different parts to feel for lumps or to see if you have pain. Then he takes both of your testicles to make sure ur okay down there, does a p check by either coughing or sticking a finger up ur ass. You do an ECG to make sure there are no irregular heart beats and then an audio gram.

Bp's also checked. Urine's Also Done.

Oh, my BMI is above 30 and I passed.

Be very aware of this.....

It cost's extra to have him stick his finger up your ass, but depending on his experience level can be well worth the $20.

If he isn't gentle then at least $55 TC Fee will fit up there smoother.

For a Cat I, I had one doctor grab my nuts, one didn't.

Just make sure your glasses are relatively new and you do NOT drink over 6 beers a week.

I repeat, YOU DO NOT DRINK OVER 6 BEERS PER WEEK!

When the doc does stick his finger up your bum, make sure that at least one hand is out of sight. I repeat...if you get a finger in your bum, and you can see both his hands...well lets just say a hot shower and some therapy is in your future.

But seriously, it's a piece of cake - and nothing to worry about. Avoid the coffee the day of, don't go telling the doc that you drink like a fish, and you should be just fine. And if they see something and send you to a specialist to get it checked out (irregular heartbeat is a common one) don't worry...it happens and almost always works out fine.

This is what one doctor told me during a medical I had quite a while back. I am happy to report that since that appointment I now comply with the standard. My response on my medicals for the last 10 years or so proves it.

Sometimes when you spend that kind of money you feel a little let down with the lack of foreplay but it is a system set up by the government so you have to expect some disappointment.

Just study everything in the FTGU and you will be fine.

Recite the learning factors from the flight instructors guide word for word.

The doctor will be so amazed he / she will forget all about your physical condition and pass you based on your mental abilities....not everyone can remember all that stuff.

What is the actual cost of the medical?

Bank on about $100 - $200 for an initial.

Sorry it's so vague, but docs typically set their own pricing...and over the years I've been getting them the price has varied wildly. I'd suggest posting the area you're looking and maybe someone could PM you a good MOT doc in your neighborhood.

There's lots of good ones out there, but there's a few that are worth avoiding as well.
